DXdiag - System specs

Simple "how to".
Someone's asking for your system specs ? = Generate a DXdiag.
( Or download and run speccy information tool. )

Laptop ? IMPORTANT: Make sure you include all "System Devices". IMPORTANT

DXdiag is most of the time required when dealing with a game-software technical problem. It contains information about your computer hardware, OS, drivers and more. Apart from "Computer name", no personal information is presented.

How to obtain your DXdiag file:

From the desktop click: Start > Run (or windows key + r).

In the text field that appears, type dxdiag

Press run or hit enter.

Another window should appear titled DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
Near the bottom of the window click on “Save All Information…”
A popup should appear with a progress bar, this may take some time.

After it completes a dialog should appear asking you where to save the file, Just save it to your desktop (automatically selected) with the default name and file type. (delete it later when convenient)

After saving, close the DXdiag tool.

Open the file on your desktop (or wherever you saved it) and select all (ctrl + a) and copy (ctrl + c). If you plan to post it here in the forum, only copy the (roughly) first 200 lines.

Paste the first ~200 lines of information and please wrap CODE-tags around the text. That's [/CODE] after the dxdiag-text and [CODE] before the text. The amount of text is quite heavy, only posting the first 200 lines or so is usually enough. If you when posting use the "Go advanced" mode, there's a tool for this code-tag wrapping , the #-button.

Even better is to post the whole thing @ Pastebin, and only make a link for it here.

This is a "code-box" inside the post.
Code:
The [[C0DE] before and [/C0DE] after the text wraps any long rambling in a box like this.
Prevents the massive amount of text making your post a mile long.
End the boxed text with [/C0DE] And use the letter "O" instead of zero. 0 (zero) here only to enable me to present the code in correct order.

For Magicka the following sections from DXdiag are usually required:

------------------
System Information
------------------

------------
DxDiag Notes
------------

---------------
Display Devices
---------------

-------------
Sound Devices
-------------

--------------
System Devices
--------------

Crude fix for Intel and other low spec graphics.

This, after patch 1.4.3.1, only applies to the Demo.
If/When the demo gets updated, this trick is obsolete.

So, only for Demo
Magicka wont start. / Flash 'n crash.

If you have tried all other workarounds and still get an error message like:
Texture width or height is larger than the device supports

First. Try using the settings file provided by tacc. Starts magicka with low resolution and windowed. With this, you just might be able to play as intended. (New file uploaded by me, look at my comment in that post.)

If that doesn't work, try this "Possible Fix for "Texture Width/Height too large"
Innovative workaround posted by Rideanovan

Also. DO read the report by antonio8643, post #13 and video on #15
Explains what's "crude" about this, some visual effects will be displayed awkwardly.

Note 1: Trick probably works if you have Intel HD graphics. This trick seam to be possible using Intel GMA 4500 series graphics, and better. If you have dedicated graphics like Radeon X1300–X1550 series or GeForce 6 and 7 series. That can run Magicka, but many of them giving poor performance and "out of memory" issues. This trick can help lower the strain on your graphic card. Game will run smoother. Apart from support for "shader 3 ", your graphics must support MSAA 4x to. Do try. Report back in the "fix-thread" how it works.

Note 2: If you need this "fix" to be able to run magicka. Most likely you will not get much sympathy from official support on other issues. As Your computer is below required specs. "Fix" mainly for computers with Intel graphics. But useful for any graphics that support features like shader 3 and MSAA 4x. BUT with a lot less muscles then a GeForce 8800 or simlilar.

Why is this possible now and not before ? Check this out - MSAA 4x change

.

.NET Framework Cleanup Tool

For me to remember.

Repairing your .NET installation have proven quite tricky for a lot of ppl. in here. You might consider reinstalling Windows instead. All in here that have reported doing so have also had success.

This is for those who have install issues with .NET 3.5 (Reqired for Magicka)
If your .NET 3.5 get errors ...
You try to repair/reinstall everything ...
AND

.NET 3.5 will not install properly.

FIRST
On Windows 7 systems there might be an issue of not having .NET 3.5 active.
More on that here.
Repairing .NET on Win7 here.

SECOND
Try normal repair methods.
Uninstall all your .NET versions using Windows "Add or Remove Programs".
Restart computer.
Install the .NET versions you need, lowest number first and up ..
Microsoft Download Follow link for .NET 4 and you'll find previous versions at the bottom of the page.
Last, perform a Windows update.

If setup still fails, you can try this .NET Framework Cleanup Tool
- PLEASE READ FIRST ! -

Smoother: Magicka normally runs better windowed.

I doubt you will have a pleasant experience using the 7050. Not sure if it even is capable to get the game going. It supports shader3 and directX 9.0c, so that's OK. But with a 425 - 500 MHz clock and maximum 256 Mb, from what I understand, SHARED memory it will struggle. (or not at all)

Can you get the Demo working at all?
If so, try demo extensively and remember that some ingame chapters are more demanding.

If you can run the demo on fairly high settings, the full game should at least get going with low settings windowed.
( But running below specs IS a gamble!)

Ignoring every other computer aspect.
You should have a card that meets minimum required.
NVIDIA® GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon® X1900
If you look at the Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart you'll find these cards ~ "in middle". Everything in line with that or above should be OK for Magicka.
ONE generation older can also run the game, but on medium/low setting. ( GeForce 7800 / Radeon X1800 )

As always, it's not just graphics. The rest of your computer must be up to specs also, or at least nearly that.

Magicka requires:
Quote:
OS: Windows XP/Vista/7 (32- or 64-bit)
Processor: Intel® Pentium® IV 2.4 GHz or AMD 3500+
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon® X1900 (Integrated Video Cards not recommended)
DirectX®: DirectX 9
Hard Drive: 2 GB Available Space
Sound: DirectX-compatible sound card
Other Requirements: 3-button mouse, keyboard and speakers. DSL Internet connection for multiplayer

Edit:
Remember!
All and every graphic card that is MOBILE and have an equivalent (same number) card for desktops. The desktop one is always superior to the mobile card.
