Massive FPS drop in Chapter 4

Is it normal to have a huge FPS hit in chapter 4? Everything is going along fine, past chapters have been lag free, then I come out of the inn in chapter 4 and WHAM! It's like the game decides the next part needs to be in slow motion. It went away when I got past the masher, at least.

If I had slow down at that area, is there going to be anymore areas coming up with issues?

I didnt have any fps hits in that area.

Have you tried verifying the game files? Maybe some are a bit corrupted?

Also what gfx card do you have? Some spell effects can cause slow downs on slower cards.

Yeah, I noticed some heavy slowdowns at the Havindr invasion, especially when you reach the fountain trap with the wizard.

It's a heavy lag zone, even in Single Player.

It was the bridge leading up to the fountain and the fountain fight itself, then a little after. Basically that whole "area" after the invasion starts. I was thinking it was either all the buildings doing it or something to do with the troops walking under the bridge.

Just going to continue on and hope that area was a fluke.

I started up Fraps and I was getting about 10 fps even when I felt I wasn't lagging. I think I've built up a high tolerance of slowdown because I've had this laptop for 4 years now and it's definatly dated. I played Batman: AA and Dragon Age on high though. I bet if I turned fraps on I'd have been getting 10 fps on those to.

Tweaking settings though has brought me up to 15-20fps. I can't find out how to go back to chapter 4 without starting adventure mode again, but I suspect it would be better now at least.

Chapter 4 gives a huge FPS hit if you are using below requirements video card.
My 7900 GS did chapters 1-3 fine then chapter 4 gave me tremendous trouble during the fires and battles before the final boss. I upgraded to a 9500 GT and chapter 4 runs with no fps drop.

I'm using a Geforce Go 7900GS so that is probably what it was. Recently it always seems like it's the CPU that holds my laptop back though, more so than the GPU. I have a 2.0 GHz 2-core cpu.

Got the same issue.
Personally I think that this happens due to army of goblins walking under bridge. It's huge, and contains of loads of objects. So processor (or video card maybe) is overwhelmed by masses of tasks (caused by mass objects) it needs to calcutate.
I think that way because:
1. Forgetfulness in clearing the memory from unused objects is quite a widespread beginner programmer problem
2. Lag stops immideatily if you'll die near the fountain (and the game will reload all the objects she needs in that location).
3. When you first come to the brigde, there's no lags. Stand for a minute in here - and you'll get massive ones

I'm thinking that this was caused by one of the newer updates.

I recently bought the game and was playing with 3 other friends online, and at that chapter, my game wouldn't lag, but my internet would literally crash. I think it's sending WAY WAY WAY too many packets. We tried running it on another persons computer and the exact same thing happened. I don't know what the hell is happening in the background on the level, but you guys really need to debug it because something is going awfully wrong. :P

Yep same thing here. After you wake up from the sleep in chapter 4 your internet literally dies when you are hosting.

I do notice the hit on a GTX580. The game runs at 60fps all the time, including during most of chapter 4, but at the fountain sometimes it drops to 40. I can't visually notice the frame rate drop, but I do notice that my controls become less responsive during and after the fight with the Warlock. This only lasts until the screen fades for the next section, after which everything returns to normal.
