[Help] left 4 dead 2 not working

i was playing left 4 dead 2 fine but then all of a sudden it said the steam servers are busy yet my friend is playing a game. this has been saying this for 2 days. i checked up on it and it says that apparently theres supposedly an update and it says that its downloading on my main page but it still doesnt work no matter how long i wait

please help

Delete game files from HDD. Redownload\reinstall them.
