Um ... I hope you got your dates wrong Haldur and are not privy to inside info. Think you mean May 10th for 1.2

@Sambonz For your rune crafting I would suggest that you rune break everything you make with outfitter (that you don't wear or need for quests.) Ignore armour breaking for now as you will find more than enough materials to level outfitting without it (though you can make some nice speed boosts with some the armour breaking mats eventually (from cloth armour breaks)). Otherwise it is very easy to get to a stage where the items that drop or you craft will out level your ability to break them. Then you have no materials to make runes and rune breaking will fall further behind.

Kind of an obvious suggestion but one I didn't follow and it got very expensive/time consuming to get rune breaking back up to par. Runecrafting can get you some really nice bonuses that can give you that little bit of an edge against mobs/or players so it is worth the effort to keep it at your current level.

Lol I must have been real tired when I typed that. Yep, I meant May 10th

And you are exactly right about Runebreaking -- later on if you really want to make the special outfitting items that require the various cloth/leather scraps, using the outfitter skill to break up the armors will always be available, but there's no rush, and the recipes that require them are nice but not as useful as making runes.

The zone events can be a lot of fun, and there are like 3 or 4 different ones that can happen for each zone in the game. They vary a good deal, but mostly they involve an invasion from a specific plane. These events can be won or lost, and when they are won, if you participated in them, you often can earn a new achievement, and a special type of planar currency that you can exchange for even better item. I think it would be fun if you and Tallahassee devote one show to a planar event (if you get lucky and one starts early enough in your show). You can earn the achievement usually by defeating the final boss of the event, who is a lot tougher than the traditional rift boss, and they can take a lot of people to beat him down. If you play during primetime, that will generally not be a problem (though it sometimes takes a couple of minutes for people to get organized for it). The rewards for these events can be pretty awesome, overall. Just keep in mind that the events have loss conditions, which usually involve losing control of a certain number of wardstones -- when they get lost, the importan ones can be very hard to take back. I think it would be fun to show them (though some of the more unusual events don't take place unitl higher level zones.

New episode posted: Let's Play Rift - Part 12 - To Sanctum Come

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThgkPprqY-o
Part 12 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the new MMO, Rift, by Trion.

In this episode once again join up with the very ill Tallahassee as we make the long journey to Sanctum, the capital city for the Guardians. Once we arrive we discover a thriving hub of player activity; crafting, buying, selling, and doing target practice to refine their skills and builds, are just some of activities being undertaken by our fellow Gauardian players. We also check out the Auction House, mount vendors, the bank, Planarite and Artifact gear vendors and we pick up our second Porticulum. We finish off the episode with Tallahassee showing me the World Event Vendor, who has some very special items for sale..

Your observation in the video about the in-game chat is not exactly what I've experienced -- it didn't look like you had much chat at all. I play defiant side on a different server, and the chat, especially in Meridian, is pretty constant during prime hours. That said, it's nothing like the chat in Wow which was bad enough to contribute to my leaving that game after 3 months of play. The Rift community does tend to be a lot more mature. The only people I've ever had to put on ignore are the occasional gold spammers. I'm not sure if its because I'm on an RP server, but I've rarely seen someone being rude to another player in chat.

That said, I don't think this makes Rift that special, as very few games 'rise' to the level of rudeness, crudeness, and immaturity that epitomizes Wow's online community.

New episode posted: Let's Play Rift - Part 13 - Give Us This Day Our Daily Quests

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RS_yRQiaIZw
Part 13 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the new MMO, Rift, by Trion.

In this episode we take a quick look at the player title feature in Rift, before discussing the complexities of the multi-role components (quad-talent ability) of the Soul Tree in depth. We then head outside of Sanctum and pick up our very first Daily Quests (recently added into the game), but due to so many other players doing them at the same time we instead decide to take a Porticulum back to Argent Glade where we hunt down four named mobs. And I get some new gear that makes me very happy.

I got the game on discount from WeGame... it was fun, for a while.

Once the shininess wore off I could not help but cancel my subscription.

Having played "other" mmo's for years prior, this title provided a constant feeling of Deja-vu.

In this day and age you have to do something pretty special to keep my old jaded self interested and paying a subscription fee.

Even more so with GW2 on the horizon and countless other F2P titles avaliable.

Overall fun for a bit, yet not worth a subscription fee.

New episode posted: Let's Play Rift - Part 14 - Back To School

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg6ZWo47_5g
Part 14 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the new MMO, Rift, by Trion.

In this episode we take a quick look at Salvaging and Runebreaking, before having to quickly step up and help defend a Guardian Foothold invasion that threatens our outpost with an incoming wave of attackers from a nearby Rift. Once we've managed to bring about relative calm, we're asked to polymorph some local students, assist a freshman Mage by warding him from his teachers spells, collect tomes, wands, mushrooms and spider innards for the various tutors in the village, and we run into some Defiant players trying to wreak havoc in our home turf. Just another day in Talara!

You asked about hazing early in the video -- that's a kind of slang for an initiation process which is not uncommon at American universities. Some fraternities, and other organizations may have a traditional hazing process. What constitutes hazing varies a great deal. Where I went to school, it consisted of a harmless rivalry between freshman and sophomores, with a lot of practical jokes (generally played on the freshman) thrown in.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=set8NcVQ5Ns
Part 15 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the new MMO, Rift, by Trion.

In this episode we take a good look at some of the major new features in the most recent v1.2 (The Spoils Of War) patch update, including the LFG Dungeon Finder Tool, and the new Appearance Slots. We then head out for some questing, where we have to neutralise spider egg sacs and goblin embers before making our way to a new area within the zone - the Sunken Marsh.

New episode posted: Let's Play Rift - Part 16 - Swamped

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC32pC-B8H4
Part 16 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the new MMO, Rift, by Trion.

In this episode we're greeted by a foothold invasion to our local quest hub, making for an exciting start to our adventure today, before getting down to the quest tasks at hand in this new area called the Sunken Marsh. Along the way we cover off the topic of marking mobs, and we find ourselves once again having to look after Scotty the dwarf who we'd already protected back in the Argent Glade. We finish off the episode by summoning a named bogling, and saving a Spirit Guide.
