Post The makers should contact Valve about adding TF2 items...

Nothing makes a game sell faster than TF2 items (more specifically: TF2 hats).

Worms Reloaded, Monday Night Combat, Sam and Max: Devils Playground, etc. All had bonus TF2 hats, and they sold like hot cakes. And more recently, even bigger games like Rift, Homefront, and Shogan 2: Total War had TF2 tie in items, and they also sold like crazy.
It's no surprise since most people on Steam already own TF2 and would buy almost any game if it includes a TF2 hat/weapon.

The makers of Dino D-Day should seriously approach Valve to ask about adding a promo TF2 item (like a hat) for people who buy the game during it's first month or couple of weeks or whatever. This would hugely boost sales.

Just a suggestion.

With only 2 weeks left till release, it warrants asking if they're planning anything at all.

It's gotta be easy for them to contact Valve and just ask.

I've posted my thoughts in that thread, here's also some more reasons:

1) It works to bring the game into peoples attention. Many people hadn't even heard of games like Worms Reloaded or Monday Night Combat UNTIL they had their TF2 promotions, then it got the word of mouth spreading like wildfire! Pretty soon, the entire TF2 community were talking about those games, and it spread to other places (outside of TF2). This is EXACTLY the sort of publicity a game like Dino D-Day needs. It needs that initial buzz to get people talking.

2) It would take little to no effort to organize. All the devs have to do is pick up the phone and contact Valve. This is exactly what the devs at Uber Entertainment did back when Monday Night Combat was still in Beta, they even posted about it on the forums. The devs over at Valve are pretty cool people and if they like the game, they're more than willing to help out smaller/indie studios promote it. (they said something to that effect when they did the MNC promo).

Yeah, they should seriously consider this. I for example had never heard of Monday Night COmbat until it had a TF2 promo and now I love that game.

Remember when people bought games because of the game itself?

Well, I assume people bought TF2 because of the game itself.

Screw Team Fortress 2, the game should give you special items for Counter Strike. <_<

It's just my opinion, but I don't think preorder items are a good idea.
Even if I own them, I end up don't using them since it jaratees of other players. I don't care for TF2 anymore since that game can't be fixed anymore but I hope Dino D-Day won't get any special items.
It may be a rather old point of view but I think everyone should be able to get 100% of everything in a game.
If there are any exclusive pre-order items, they should at least become a dlc later.

It doesn't matter whether you personally will use the TF2 items or not, the whole point is to create that initial buzz in the community, to get everyone talking about it. So, word of mouth can spread and promote the game. The whole TF2 forums will be talking about it, just like they were with Monday Night Combat and their pre-order items.

This would be very good for the developers, and will help to create a larger long term user base as a lot of those TF2 players who buy Dino D-Day will make up long term players.

*Dino D-Day Pack
  • Stegosaurus armor plates hat (and down the back like a backpack?)
  • Velociraptor claw gloves (Heavy)
  • T-Rex tooth or Raptor jaw bone knife melee
  • Triceratops horns hat
  • Dinosaur bone club (Scout)

Just some ideas.

Looking forward to the release!

To be honest I think TF2 items would be a good idea even though I don't really play TF2 anymore. Sure people would probably buy the game just for the hat/item but some of those people would at least give the game a try and chances are they'd probably like it. It'd also make people more willing to buy the game. They might figure that even if they don't like the game at least they get something out of it.
