Lego Star Wars III - Is this a cheat? - Is this wrong?

Sorry for the long post but some folks might find some value in it and I'd like to hear your take on it.

My son and I have really been enjoying the game. The graphics are much better than the previous series and we really like the new characters, weapons, force powers etc. We have ran across a couple of bugs but nothing major.

By the way, we use game controllers to play.

While playing it the other night, we ventured into the area on the ship that allows access to the turrets to basically do target shooting. Fun for about 2 minuets. Then we moved on. But I realized that since all the target ships come out in the same area, there is a very repeatable pattern of racking up points.

We accessed the area and hopped our characters into the turrets.

Here is where the "is it wrong" part comes in. I set a dime on the "fire" button on the controllers and used a rubber band to keep it in place. I set both turrets aim to target the incoming ships. I set the controllers down and went to bed and let it run all night. Woke up the next morning with 3,000,000 points !!!

Used those points to buy the 4x point red brick and repeating the process tonight. Should wind up with about 12,000,000 points by tomorrow morning.

What's your take on this? Is it a cheat?

No where near it, and neither is it anything new. Such tactics have been used since the early Nintendo days and pre video game crash wouldn't surprise me either.

As for ethics, I'm not the best person to ask about that. My stance for single player is if it's me vs. the computer, all bets are off.

Yes it is wrong, you should repent your sins at your nearest Game Shop.

Nothing wrong with that in a single player only game.

It's up to you if you dilute your (and your son's) gaming experience by having access to all those red brick power ups in such a quick and easy way.
All the fun exploring the levels for stuff to find and the joy of unlocking and buying some character might vanish.

And while you're there, trade in your soul for a new, exploitable game.

Actually, the space missions give massively more cash. Since the multipliers stack, my sister and I made 5,343,625,000 (not kidding) in 30 minutes today.

x2,x4,x6,x8 multipliers turned on, for x394 money generation. I just sat still shooting while she ran around the platforms.

Heck no! It counts as an exploit, but really its not a cheat. Sure, it takes away a long amount of gameplay, but that gameplay that is removed is rather boring. Fun, but boring.......................

Do it if you want.

Thanks for the tip. I want my son to be able to see everything in the game without us having to grind for points. He is only 5 and we sometimes switch controllers back and forth so on some levels we only finish with a few thousand. We are only 10% in but after we win this will certainly help us to experience the whole game. Thanks again!

Good idea, but be careful with the controller and try not to leave your PC on for too long.
