Don't think anyone has actually been able to crack VALVE´s preload files in any games yet.

Had nothing to do with the preload.

I have a theory on cracking the encryption, if it is a cipher - we know what game_info.txt contains from other source games, all we need to do is replace the path, change the appid (we already know it from the store page) and find the cipher. Then, we can apply it across all files and crack the encryption.

That guy was arrested. Also part of his success was due to the fact that Gabe had one of the most r***rded passwords in the history of hacking.

That will not work at all.

It's public/private key encryption most likely AES-128 or AES-256 - which the key(s) will be unique to each game.

There is currently no way to crack the encryption and brute force will take you years, lots of years.

There has been no instance (publicly anyway) where the games files from a pre-load have been accessed before release - The HL2 leak was a totally different thing.

Those weren't encrypted. That's a very different topic.

He's saying that the game_info.txt *IS* almost the same through *ALL* releases. And that it could possibly be used to figure out the encryption since we could compare our encrypted one to one from another game (That is not encrypted).
