Big plans are afoot at Good Old Games, the digital distributor revealed during owner CD Projekt's CDP Days 2011 Spring Conference today. These include a new downloader, messaging, new releases and the landing of big-name publishers.

GOG cruelly teased that it has signed a deal with either Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Take Two, LucasArts or Microsoft Game Studios, declining to specify which. Over 25 games from the mystery publisher will start arriving on GOG in early summer.
On the new client...

Quote:
A new Good Old Games downloader client is also on the way, complete with error checking and multithreaded downloads to fully utilise your connection. Each 10MB chunk of a download will be checked to ensure it's intact, then only re-downloading bad chunks rather than the whole file. The new client will also bring messaging, though GOG stressed that it's still lean and not a bloated beast.

The new GOG client is due to launch later this month.

Sounds interesting however there is only 2 series of games they could release that would get me to use their service again.

EA = System Shock & MS = Mechwarrior
Anything else not really interested in tbh after that stupid PR stunt awhile back.

Oh god. Let it be EA with Wing Commander, fixed to support present day USB joysticks.

That would be great if they got System Shock and Mechwarrior! I'm guessing it's LucasArts though.

Since LucasArts "best" games are on here, and have been for a while, they need something unique for a PR stunt like this.

But any of them IP's and I'd buy them instant.

I want No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, even though that IP has nothing to do with those 5, but that's all I ask. For now.

Some old EA games eh? Alpha Centauri???! Although it runs fine on Win7 I wouldn't mind a DRM free version and the Crossfire manual that I've lost.

Huh? The last time I checked neither Day of the Tentacle, nor Grim Fandango were available.

Grim Fandango is one of the best games ever, imo.

One of the guys did when talking about Lucus mention Grin Fandango in passing so maybe they are trying. I know it's one of the asked for titles and I'd buy it having only seen a video of gameplay. I'm hoping for the early NFS games as well especially NFS1.

I just hope the client is optional (e.g. for those who want better downloads and chat functionality) and we can still play the games without it, otherwise it sounds fantastic

I'm going to guess it will be optional otherwise people on GoG's forum will go ballistic at the prospects of DRM.

I'm guessing it will be optional like it is now. I haven't used the downloader personally to DL my games yet just my browser.
