SPOILERS Did anyone catch this? SPOILERS

When you go through the first Aperture lobby, the one from the fifties, did anyone see the newspaper article framed under Cave Johnson's portrait? If I remember it right it said something like,
"Entrepreneur buys old mine, bringing science to Upper Michigan"

Could this be the confirmed location of the Aperture lab and the setting for both games?

Living in Upper Michigan myself this is pretty exciting since most people don't even know we exist. A fictional science facility could pretty much pass for a landmark up here.

It certainly makes sense plot-wise. GlaDOS mentions deer early in the game, and we have lots of those up here. A mine would also explain the facility being so far underground.

What do you think?

Yeah, I saw it. That still only really confines it geographical location to the upper half of a whole state though.

Given the apparent size of the facility, I would say it's geographical location IS the upper half of the whole state.

Well, that's probably just a retcon. Also, didn't the Borealis set sail in one of the Great Lakes? That would support the Michigan theory.

Unfortunately by Upper Michigan, it means Upper-Lower Michigan, as there weren't any salt mines in the UP. But there were quite a few downstate.

"Michigan led the nation in salt production for all but four years between 1905 and 1958 and still has sufficient salt deposits to supply the world's needs for centuries. Salt companies used two methods to extract salt. In one method water was pumped down to the salt to make an artificial brine, which was pumped to the surface and evaporated. Actual underground mining of rock salt began during the early 20th century under the city of Detroit. The photograph shows one of the world's largest salt mines which was operated by the International Salt Company under the city." [SOURCE]
