Again, other than the supposed GI timeline, how do you know when BYDTWD took place. The comic sums up the events between Portal 1 and Portal 2 with various flashbacks.

lets see the original Aperture Science website lists the BYDTWD as being the day Glados took control.
Also you forget that in the Lab Rat comic Glados calls Humans the cats in her experiment. when she stated bring your cats to work day she was talking about the day she was going to use the Humans in her experiment. |

2. Why does the disaster that Wheatley refers to have to be the same disaster that leads up to Portal 1? |

If Cave Johnson is her father then Chell must have been a teenager/adult when she was brought to bring your daughter to work day.

Has nobody thought that perhaps Chell was an employee who brought her daughter to work, and either her daughter is a junior, or Chell's name was on the project for some reason?

Possible, but that's 100% conjecture and has no basis in the game. GlaDOS would have definitely mentioned this part in trying to antagonize Chell.

Then again, this whole thing could be in VALVe time, so it's not like any of it would make sense anyways. |

The Black Mesa incident was not Gordon's first day at work.

The only thing I can see that suggest that BYDTWD took place slightly before the BMI is the Game Informer timeline. This timeline was itself taken from (I believe) the old aperaturescience.com timeline. This timeline has been revised at least once when they change Cave Johnson getting moon poisoning instead of mercury poisoning.
Therefore, the ONLY logical date for BYDTWD would be around 10 years BEFORE the BMI. This also means that the "disaster" at BYDTWD wasn't the disaster that led to the events of Portal 1. |

first off
http://media.steampowered.com/apps/p.../part2/p22.jpg This image of Glados saying Bring your cat to work day was Glados not so subtly hinting that she thinks humans are like the cat in Schrodinger cat paradox. Shes saying she sees humans as test subjects. -It does not in any way contradict that Glados went mad on BYDTWD. -Wheatly said BYDTWD ended in disaster -Valve said it several times while making portal 1 -Its survived the Retconns that changed EVERY OTHER BIT OF APERTURE TIMELINE and made it into the final protal 2 product. -If BYDTWD had ended before hand theres no reason why the kids science experiments would still be there. -Also someone who posted before had a great idea that the potato experiment was meant to show Chels growth as a person while at aperture and not be a literal representation of something Chell made that would fit with other themes valve throws into thier games.
