Ok I just noticed that Portal 2 doesn't crash on my laptop. Running it for more than 50 minutes right now.
Only difference to my desktop is that Portal 2 is not located on E:\Spiele\Steam but on D:\Spiele\Steam. Also I did not used Symbolic-Links to reference steam and game-binaries to my SSD (since my notebook does not have one).

Anyway, it's strange and shouldn't happen.

It could be that the binaries don't like symlinks. I have a similar setup, however my entire portal 2 directory is hardlinked (win7 junction) from my SSD.

I'll try junctions soon (which aren't actually Hard-Links, just "hard-link like folders"). Anyway, I just deleted ClientRegistry.blob. I haven't tried this before. Reporting soon.

Deleting clientregistry.blob and reaquiring all "necessary steam-files" didn't do the thing. Trying Junctions and or even "no linked files" at all tomorrow.

Removing symlinks and using the files directly didn't help. Anyway there was just an update of P2 right now. Testing & Reporting.

Add the following as a launch option for Portal 2:

-condebug

This will log all console output to a file named console.log. The file will be located under your ..\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal 2 folder. When you get this CTD, copy and paste the last 100 or so lines of that file here. Hopefully it'll contain something useful. My guess is that what will be contained in this file will be normal console output and then nothing that could provide any clues besides the end of the file(the point of the crash). I guess at this point, it's worth a shot.

For an unknown reason, I do not crash anymore. I have to investigate that further but it wasn't the update 3 days ago.

System, just as a quick follow-up, to hopefully help anybody else who runs into this problem: Has E: always been your Steam directory?

Yes: E:\Spiele\Steam\common\Portal 2

I think the symbolic links were the issue since I now get the same problem in Left 4 Dead 2 (I never had it there before). I removed all symbolic links of steam files and game-files (before I did not remove the symbolic links of steam-files. Now they are).
Portal 2 works, L4D2 has to be tested right now. But since L4D2 worked before (with symbolic links), it must be a recent update to steam which is somehow messing things up.

Seems to have helped.

Solution: Do not sym-link any engine-files and steam-files or CEG will fail and force-close your game.
