Arma 2 or Operation Arrowhead?

I'm downloading the demo to OpArrowhead now to see if i can run the game without any problems. Though I'm not sure which game is more populated in multiplayer, better single player, and more content. Any advice would be appreciated.

Personally? I'd go for ARMA 2. However, it's been months since i last played online. I have NO idea how populated the community is right now...

You can always get both as they integrate with each other and you get all the content installing both together under a "Arma:Combined Operations". Otherwise you won't have 'all' the content by just getting 1.

I'm not sure which one would be better for multiplayer, but for single-player I've enjoyed the (original) Arma 2 main campaign more so than the OA campaign so far. Probably because the original is mostly infantry, small-squad missions, and I'm not too interested in the vehicle/air combat.

Also the devs released a free bonus Eagle Wing campaign for Arma 2 in a patch that is quite short, but has a great atmosphere I thought. I think it was worth the price of admission by itself when I got the game on sale. As I mentioned, I'm not too high on air missions but that campaign was quite good regardless. I don't want to spoil any details about it, but I wish they made a full game out of it.

If you were to get one, get operation arrowhead. But getting both is seriously the best option, you're missing out on alot otherwise.

ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead is newer engine than ARMA 2

ARMA 2: Combined Operations is ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead binary + ARMA 2 data
(yet You can still play also ARMA 2 if You want)

note: most of clans and total conversion mods today use content of both games!

I'm certainly getting OA, for the simple reason I want to see that FLIR in action.

And the demo performance is a relic of the laggy past, btw.

Why haven't they updated the demo?

Updating demos takes work. You have to re-cut out all the content they don't want you to be able to use, re-cripple the binary so it can't do those things if the assets are manually added, etc.
It takes time.

Fair enough. But is it worth the time if it means extra sales? From what I'm reading, the demo sucks, but the game is good.

does a new engine mean it runs smoother. does either of them support crossfire? I have arma 2 but I wasn't sure if arrowhead ran smoother than it or not. do you play arrowhead then to get the new engine or will it update arma 2 as well. any info would be great, i would like to buy it with an informed decision. thanks

The engine is better, but a little more demanding. So while OA is being continually improved, it may run worse on a weaker computer.

If you buy both games, you can use Arma 2's content in OA's engine. Arma 2 will get patches still, but very slowly.

OK, how about this? They've obviously lost their minds in the sales department. 8$ for Arma 2 is insane!! Under $30 for both is unheard of, a once in a lifetime chance. Hurry and buy now before they realize their mistake!! I'll probably buy 2 arma2's for friends who have been humming and hawing on getting it.
