Barely any hackers when playing on "real" servers. Last one I've seen must've been like three or four months ago, and I'm playing frequently.

Rip off price. And OP, sure get it if you want a game where all servers ban the same perks, weapons and only cycle crap maps.

The only real problem with buying CoD4 on steam is not being able to down grade to 1.6.

With the retail version you will be at ver 1.6. There are alot of people playing on those servers, and you can patch to 1.7 if you like.
I see more populated servers in ver 1.6.

With Steam you will be stuck at ver 1.7.

I have both retail and Steam versions. My retail version is setup for ver 1.6 mods and my Steam is stock 1.7.

Just go buy it and stop being a Pirate.

I think it's worth buying because the best people play cod4,and not noobs (gl) etc.But it's gonna be an assf**ck as long as you are lvl 1-30

1.6 is more customizable and easier to mod. Maybe the people who bought it retail don't know about the 1.7 patch.
1.6 comes with the map packs and works great just the way it is.

Here's the release notes-> http://bashandslash.com/index.php?It...tent&task=view

Unsure what the Dvars and exploits were but the 1.7 patch separated the community.
Some of the mods weren't made to work in 1.7. Imho 1.6 is far better (mod wise) but I bought the Steam version to play with my Steam friends.

There are more servers on 1.7 but most are empty or in countries outside the US. I see more players and mods on 1.6. Ck again later this evening. I have a friend that shuts his server down when hes not playing.

Actually the best time to check would be weekends.

It's just my opinion that 1.6 is better, you can patch to 1.7.
With Steam you can't unpatch the game.

1.6 is no easier or harder to make a mod than 1.7. The mod code is pretty much the same.

Unless you are talking about individual players making their own changes to their own clients and not something on server level. Simple difference in what a term means I suppose.
