-CD Project the devs of the game own GoG so your proceeds go directly to them
-GoG employs 0 DRM whilst the Steam version(and all retail versions) use SecuROM -GoG allows you to set your country so you can get a cheaper uncensored version "Shoppers living in Australia can sidestep the censorship (as well as the bizarre price hike to $69.99 AUS that came about due to "licensing issues") by setting their country of origin as ... well, just about anywhere else." edit:GoG is also allowing preloading right now Last edited by Pheonix Wright: 05-10-2011 at 04:10 PM. |

Just to clarify things..
First off all, GoG doesn't mean in any way to bypass it like this. Remember this is still illegal in Australia, thus bringing CDPR in trouble. They had way other reason's to do so. However, some Australian's might travel a lot.. Maybe you should work on an American accent. Or "sell" furniture in the UK. You have your reason's, right? Use it, don't abuse it.. |

agreed. Especially since 99% of the world gets to play it uncensored whilst only Australian customer's (german too probably actually...I know TF2 is censored there) get shafted. Not only that they pay more too, I'm really glad GoG's new policies can work around it.

Easy tiger. He was saying what you are saying only also that GOG is not going to outright declare they did this so that it can be abused to circumvent regional pricing and/or censorship. They offered other reasons for doing this. How you use/abuse the system they have in place is up to the individual.

I still find the whole Securom situation annoying though. What if I don't want to buy from GoG? There is zero reason Securom need be included in the Steam version which is already safe from day 1 Piracy. It just feels like being bullied into purchasing from GoG. In which case I can wait since I have other things to play. Shame though I wanted to buy it on launch anyway.

Why is it Securom is such a big issue? I have several games that use it, and I don't really feel much of a difference. Now Live that can be a ♥♥♥♥♥...

There's no real reason to include other DRM on Steam. |

The OP forgot to mention the fact that GoG will let you pick 1 of 5 games that you will get for free should you pre-order there. I chose Gothic 2.

I bought it through GoG for the simple reason that it is DRM free. I personally feel this is a thank you to the gamers who made Witcher 1 the success that it was. I bought Witcher 1 at full price and paid for it to gift it to a friend as well. So if I can give my money directly to the developer, I'm going to do it just because I support the fact that they're willing to risk giving people a DRM free version of their game. It shows a great confidence that the gaming community won't betray their trust when they put this much work into it. More developers need to trust the gamers.

I was impressed when I read about their fair pricing deal. If you buy the game at a ridiculous Australian price then they will credit you the difference between American and Australian prices on your account on GOG. You still have to spend the terrible price, but it's like getting an in-store gift certificate for the difference. I see them stealing a lot of Australian purchasers from Steam.
