Check debug.log (found in game's root folder...C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\syberia) and check the errors that it gives you.
Also see this thread to see if it helps |

1) go to Steam\steamapps\common\syberia
2) right click on the game.exe, choose properties, compability and change it to windows 98/me 3) repeat ste 2 for Syberia.exe 4) copy your save folder from your "my documents" to Steam\steamapps\common\syberia this worked for me, good luck |

my game started crashing in Barrockstadt
, so I guess we're talking about the same bridges. After changing the compatibility the load times have increased but the crashes are gone. I'm running Xp though

I tried everything suggested in the thread. Here's my crash log. It's also occurring to me when I attempt to cross the tracks, either over the bridge or the train. Any other advice?

I'm having the exact same problem and this last time it did it my save games have disappeared too. This game is worthless I guess. I'm glad I only paid 3 dollars for 1+2 but since I can't even finish the first one without my game crashing and my saves disappearing do I even want to bother with the second?
EDIT: Reporting back. I tried a few things after fuming over the loss of my saves initially. I changed the compatibility of Game.exe and Syberia.exe in the game folder to Win 98/ME mode as well as disabled visual themes and turned off advanced text services (I am on WinXP SP3 32-bit). Then I disabled Steam Community In-game for Syberia. Finally, in-game options I made sure to leave anti aliasing off this time and play in 16-bit color depth rather than 32-bit. I have now passed the part where I was crashing previously (the bridge right after giving the birds the berries) and have not had an issue so far. Hopefully there will be no other random crashes and I can finish this game. Save often. Last edited by CaptainJack: 07-15-2012 at 12:22 AM. Reason: Further info to add |

Thank you for the solutions here. Saving carefully, the precautions I took included getting the cutscene before dealing with the berries, the switch down to 16-bit, no AA, disabling Steam Community, and not crossing through the train. I'm not sure which of those specifically were needed, but I never turned on compatibility mode and never lost my saves. WinXP SP3 here as well.
