Cant play witcher 2 (due 9GB patch downloading) 2 more 9GB patches coming too.

Update : Prepare for 1.3 coming soon, this is GETTING annoying, i chose NOT TO UPDATE witcher 2 but steam does force the update, we need a solution to avoid downloading patches we don't need or something, Game was 21GB with bonus content + dual 9.5GB that's 40GB from 1 GAME ! unacceptable

If you have Bandwidth or downloading speed issues You wont be able to play witcher 2 for a while unless you NEVER connect to steam online

Witcher 2 will have another patch soon (after the latest 1.1 which mostly improve performance by removing the DRM for none steam versions only) the upcoming patch will address logitech headset like g53 and others plus fix some bugs, there will be another minor patch too later on according to cd project

STEAM WONT ALLOW YOU to play witcher 2 once you start downloading the patch because the game original files get DELETED so be warned, if you have crapy connection stay offline THE UPDATE IS FORCED EVEN IF YOU CHOSE "NEVER UPDATE THIS GAME

Not sure if it's Steam or CD project to blame regarding this issue, atm my ISP have issues with all customers so downloading speed is like freaking dial up lol they promise to fix it within a week so I'm stuck here and can't play the witcher 2 the patch is forced even if you set the game to "do not update my game automatically"

If you own the Witcher 2 close steam then open it again, you will be forced to download the 1.1 Patch which is huge 9.5GB for steam, retail versions download xxMB patch only. steam download the entire thing instead of patching the needed file =/

That's how it's patching. It has to delete what it's replacing. That's why people can't play until the game patches.
Hence the anger.

Well, ok I've understood the patching procedure, but we have to download 9GB and not 16GB (the whole game) like Kelton312...

More fun with the way Steam updates; it redownloads modified files. In this case the file was pack0.dzip, the 9GB monster that made the game uninstallable on FAT32 partitions.

Surely there is no need to place content into huge archive files like this. The only reason I can think of is to "protect" content from being distributed separately, eg models or music, but people have already worked out how to extract the dzips ...

Oh well ...

I think CD Project made the file huge to avoid piracy, big files can not be burned on a DVD? either way I'm not looking forward with their upcoming minor patches, will have to disconnect from steam until i complete the game at least

The thing is, they don't need to FORCE you to re-download pack0.dazip alltogether. They could have let people download the patched files, in other words, like mods, creating new folders under CookedPC and placing updated files there... Or even better, put a patch0.dazip or something and let people download it. Same ...

This is just stupid. Glad that I'm not downloading it, yet. I'll play till my game crashes. Then I'll be forced to get the update I guess.
