PixelVision is my first attempt at skinning for Steam, so don't expect anything overly fancy! What I've tried to accomplish here is to improve upon certain aspects of the original Steam 2010 UI that I felt needed some work.

I didn't want to end up changing things around where there was no need to, so I've tried to retain the overall feel of the original Steam. Hopefully I was successful, I'll let you decide.

Notes & Disclaimers

This skin is meant for Windows, and is as-of-yet untested on Mac (it's on the to-do list!).
Please make sure to read the readme files, if you follow the steps nothing should go wrong.
This skin is setup by default for Steam in English, if you're using a different language, use the language fix (readme).
If you're having trouble, check the Troubleshooting part of the readme, it covers most of the common eventualities.

Changes in 1.9.6

Implemented the new status icons to the friends list for BPM, Mobile & Web Chat.
Added the new 'View' button to the workshop download panel.
Removed the 'new' tag above the username tab on the main interface.
Minor bug fixes (see ChangeLog.txt).

Known Issues

Small graphical bug: the inbox counter will run into the envelope icon from 10 onwards.

Really like this skin, 1 suggestion through.

Can you move the "Start Voice Chat" button to below the "Invite to Chat" button.

I've done it in my skin already so feel free to look at it.

I like it a lot but I always worried about one thing.

By using a custom unverified skin on steam can it get you VAC ban ? I prefer to ask than not.

nope, its only images and files no dll or exe so you can't get vac ban. I been using custom skins ever since steam was out lol

Ah yes, I tried that and reverted to the side-by-side layout since I didn't really like that particular counterpart. That's personal taste though. I could include some kind of a 'tweaks' folder for small changes like that. I'll take a look at it tomorrow, thanks (or later today, actually!)

I know what you mean. I was tempted to make the colour scheme a little darker but I didn't want to have anything too far from the original to avoid alienating the external pages, which remain the default brown-grey (Store, News, Community, HTML pop ups, etc).

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure third-party skins are a fully intended feature within Steam

And if any skin would ever attempt anything malicious your anti-virus would probably pick up on it before it did any harm anyway : )

i will try this out!

will post update later and tell you what i think of it.

i didn't like it, and also DirectWrite is not working for me using Vista service pack 2, all latest updates.

Edit: One suggestion I have is in overlay, you should move the "friends, achievements and screenshot" boxes down abit. With that we can get more space in the middle for web browser, chat box, screenshot up at once with more space.

And could you tell me where I go to make my group names not all upper case? (As in groups for my games in steam client. E.g All Valve games I've put under "Valve" but I don't want "VALVE" to be fully upper case.)

I'm sorry to hear that. As for DirectWrite, I included some basic information on it within the readme, but ultimately it's a Windows feature and unrelated to my skin. I never used Vista, but from what I read DirectWrite support is a feature of the "Platform Update for Windows Vista" (KB2117917) and can be found here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2117917.

That's skin dependant, you can't change that via Steam Settings. I'll include a tweak for that in my next update which shouldn't take me too long.
