Question Angry with the upcoming monthly fees in CoD Elite? (Discussion thread)

Just starting a thread to talk about the absurd premium service that Activision is implementing in the next Call of Duty game.

For those who don't know, they will be charging gamers a monthy fee to enjoy extra basic features such as stat tracking (and other minor stuff). Granted, the full details of this havn't been revealed yet, and it could be more such as in-game advantages (extra weapons, perks, etc). But my point is that those types of features have always been free not only in most CoD games, but in many other games as well, and we shouldn't be charged for them.

Also, it's quite deceptive to call the Elite service "optional" if there are game-changing advantages to subscribing. There could even very well be "Elite only" servers, or other sorts of ridiculous features that makes subscribing a necessity. Let's not forget this could quickly turn into a slippery slope, with Activision requiring subscriptions for future multiplayer games, or extra in-game DLC.

All in all, it's absurd nonetheless, and it shows Activision is only concerned with nickle and diming their loyal fan base rather than rewarding them. And it seems I'm not the only one angry about this, as the whole gaming community is buzzing with similar sentiments: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/0...ite-reactions/

There will be no "servers" on the PC.

It is optional unless they give players additional perks, killstreaks, and weapons.

How many threads do you need to bring up about this?
We've seen your previous 12 million threads about it, just bump one of them instead of creating another useless topic.

Because it's a step in the wrong direction and if we don't make sure it fails miserably, will most likely lead to things NOT being optional, and eventually charging just to play.

I wouldn't be the one to talk since you probably paid for this game from your mommy.

I don't get why you guys even bother talking about this for PC. The main reason why Activision got so greedy is because all the console kids giving them money. The problem with people paying for Elite/DLC/anything else is due to the fact that consoles have 90% kids on it and there parents will get them anything. I'm pretty sure MW3 and Elite won't be very popular on PC, it's just that Activison doesn't need PC at all, with 2 consoles bringing in probably 90% of their money.

Also, the thing is console gamers are used to paying premiums for things they really shouldn't. PC gamers wouldn't put up with these monthly fee services, but consolers would subscribe to them in a heartbeat. That's why most big name developers are turning a blind-eye to the PC market, because they can't milk them for pennies and abuse them. It's sad really.

Yup, basically, that's why DICE sure has seemed like they're listening to the PC community.

guess what? its not the 80's or 90's anymore. This will help stop CHILDREN playing as they dont have credit cards to be able to use these features.
might help them to get some sunshine for a change and not grow up to go hostile on students (america of course)

that makes no sense, it IS optional. If you dont want to pay then you can still play the normal version. How is that not optional?
YOU have the choice to buy it or not.
SAME as drugs, oh yer theyre good but its your choice to use them or not.
Less QQ from you please.

thats because the whole gaming community (that are on that) are children who wont be able to use it.
world of warcraft has done it for years, no one got jarateed off at that did they?
my suggestion is go and play cod4 and waw if you dont like the new way of gaming.
Activision will be the FIRST, not the ONLY.
