It seems to be some sort of Matrix like plot, and I have started to ignore it. The babbling during the missions makes little sense.

the Shape is essentially the internet on steroids.
Everything else you need to know can be figured out by reading the dossiers before the mission starts and paying attention to what the characters say. |

Vatforms are basically dumbed-down human clones used to menial tasks, or harvested or organs and other medical uses, and also controlled via the Shape for combat operations, and considered basically disposable. The Shape is, as mentioned before, basically the internet, but it has organic properties and is self-sustaining.
E:N is a merger of the largest financial and political entity with the group that controls the Shape (or maybe it's the media), but are basically becoming a super version of The Man. You're with a group of rebels who are trying to overthrow The Man (E:N) and lift the blindfold from the eyes of the public to the true evil nature of E:N. You're right; you could play the entire game without reading a single part of the story and still have a blast, but if you like to read, and you enjoy sci-fi, corporate espionage, political intrigue, and lots of plot twists, you'll find there's a lot of truly great content here to sift through. Some of the characters are quirky to the point of just being goofy, and a few lines of dialogue may have you rolling your eyes, but they really have created a whole world here for the player to get drawn into, and it makes the missions much more compelling. Give it a shot! |
