Bomber
Am I missing something? The bomber seems to do barely any damage compared to the other ships, am I doing something wrong? (yes, I am detonating my shots)

I think the bomber is a horrible ship, the weapon is laughable and the alternate is just as much, very little damage from the bubbles and you need to MISS your targets just slightly to detonate them and possibly do decent damage but of course it detonates EVERY shot so you get to start all over while dodging who knows how many bullets.
... Even with coop I really don't see what good that ship would do, not much of a 'bomber' if you ask me. |

It's basically a melee-type ship and If you are into flying toward your death, it's a good choice. When using it this way, it's hard but effective.

I tried out the bomber, and yeah - I didn't get it.
It does a good job wiping out the 1-shot mooks, but it's absolute balls against anything that's tougher. I wonder how much damage detonating the shots does. If it's actually a good return on damage, maybe the trick is to shoot to the side of the enemy and detonate the shot-strain that way. |

Honestly, I think they should do away with the Bomber in its current form. What I'd do is something like this:
Current Bomber: Removed. Charge: Renamed to Bomber. Alt-fire now detonates on impact with an enemy, or upon being shot by primary fire. Explosion does AOE damage and sends out smaller projectiles in a ring, amount depends on how big the "charge ball" is. New Ship: Renamed to Charge. Acts like the R-9 in R-Type. Primary fire is a mid-damage stream of bullets. Hold alt-fire to charge a beam attack, which gets wider, lasts longer, and does more damage depending on how long the button is held for. |

I haven't gotten around to trying out the 'buffed' bomber, is it still about as useless as it was in release?

... Yeah, the bomber still pretty much sucks.
Developers, I have a suggestion. Ditch the "detonateable shots" idea. Instead, have the basic shot be some average firepower, while the special shot is a single bomb that, on impact, does a large amount of damage over a big area. The catch is that if you use the bomb, you're unable to attack for a short period of time. So, very powerful, but you need to make your shots count. |

Beam and Charge are the only two ships worth using in my opinion. Charge is espeically good for killing big ships, espeically bosses as it's charge attack can destroy any boss form in two shots.

Bomber as it is is an awful ship.
Gunner, in my opinion, is by far the best ship to use in most situations. It has the potential to attack from any position on the screen. The beam and charge ships are good but when you have things behind you homing in there is no possible way to get rid of them unless you have a gap in the bullets or a vaunt to use. |
