"problem starting up steam"

this is the error message I get when I try to run shadowgrounds it wont even get to main menu of this game then when I close the error msg it tries to open another steam window with me logged out, anyone else had this?

edit: it seems my steam is screwed up due to a TF2 update, on TF2 I get the error "Steamstartup()failed:steamstartup(0xf,0x0013E 5BC) failed with error 1: failed to take master pipe connection lock"

wtf??

Google "failed to take master pipe connection lock" and find multiple hits on this forum that gives varied solutions to this issue. There are too many to list in a post Seems it is a Steam client issue rather than the games.

Definitely seems that way... Hopefully a solution is found - if not, let me know.
