No, listening to it while you sleep will not work.
Listening to it while you do other activities during the day may help...slightly... Best thing to do is to recite as much as you can without looking, look when you get stuck, repeat. If you can get someone to prompt you and tell you when you've missed bit out that's even better. |

See I don't understand why they are making you memorize that. When will you ever have to remember the Gettysburg Address besides inside school? A pretty stupid move by the teacher if you ask me. Anyways I usually do what Snorkel does, I remember and recite it bit by bit, usually having a friend help.

Write it down. There's something about writing that helps burn it into your brain. I don't know why it works, but it does. It's far more effective than just reading it a bunch of times.
Also, use a pen and paper. |

I had to recite this at the town cemetery on Memorial Day when I was in the sixth grade. I don't recall how long it took me to do that but it certainly wasn't in one night. When the teacher was looking for a volunteer for this a "friend" of mine nominated me and next thing I knew I had to memorize this. Here is what I would do. Read the first paragraph multiple times then without looking at it, try reciting it to yourself from the beginning, going as far as you can. Rinse and repeat until you can do the whole first paragraph. Once you get that down, move on to the next one and learn that. Then combine them. Keep working like this until you can recite the entire thing. It is doable. It's just all about repetition. There are no tricks and no easy ways to do it. You have to read it and practice reciting it hundreds of times which is why I doubt very much that you will pull it off in one night but you can get a good start on it. So maybe you can give the teacher something, showing some effort and ask for more time. That's what I'd try. It's your only hope with this really. Good luck! |

I usually read one sentence, then write it out. I do that with the whole paper, not moving on until I can write out all the sentences prior to the new sentence. It's a rather tedious process, and I usually save it for when I have to be able to recall something uber fast. You truly know it by heart by the time you're done.

I memorize things like this: Say someone displayed a pattern of disrespect and inappropriate behavior and I need to remember that but I keep forgetting the word "pattern". Then I think, Pat-tern. Patt-ern. My friend Pat took a turn. That's how I remember that.
