Smile Space Games

Im having real trouble finding good space games on Steam.. or well.. anywhere.. Could you guys post all space games/Sci-Fi games you know? I'd really apriciate it since it's pretty hard to find some of them.

And a cool idea.. what if steam added a Genre in the store called Space where there is listed space games n stuff like that
They cud also do this with Medieval games etc

Freelancer seems fun. It's pretty accessible too.

It has a brutal learning curve though. If you do get past the learning curve though it offers one of the best sandbox experiences out there.

Space Rangers and Star Wolves series are quite fun as sci-fi games go.

Indeed but it's worth it and there is plenty of help out there.

The X-Forums are still very active and it has a HUGE modding community.

I'll throw out a few suggestions of sci-fi /space type games I've played that I thought were good:

Mass Effect:

Mass Effect 2:

Beat Hazard:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic:

Alien Swarm (hey, it's free):

Dead Space (meant for adult players though, has a lot of gore and can be disturbing in parts):

Space Pirates and Zombies. Really accessible and has some great progression. Whole game turns on its head about halfway through and the whole focus changes.

It's not on Steam right now though, but that's going to change apparently and there's a good chance a key you buy now will register on it too!

But as Choster said it has a very tough learning curve and can be frustrating in the beginning.

If You value story, atmosphere and music in games more than shiny graphics I would suggest 3 classic titles that I myself played and will play still many many times in the future.
Homeworld, Homeworld Cataclysm, Homeworld 2.
Trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odRUdN05q2c
Some music from all of the games:
- Turanic Raiders
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzo4ONrI8n8
- Swarmer Battle Music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jzeQIJf4PE
- Imperial Battle Music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahFMO...eature=related
- Bentusi
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8okx3n_RDZ0
- Homeworld Cataclysm Menu Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaMKw...el_video_title

Well maybe I will suggest more than 3, next only to Homeworld games ---> Nexus the Jupiter Incident a truly great game.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/6420/

Not as great as Homeworld games or Nexus but on steam you can get Star Wolves, all three parts.

Knights of The Old Republic, good cRPG games indeed but on steam you can get only first part.

There is also Flotilla, worth a look small indie turn based space strategy with a funny single player campaign if you can call it a campaign, I myself must get it one day somehow.

Hope You will try some of those.

Galactic Civilization 2 (Best AI in a TBS, great ship editor, no real time tactical)
Sins of a Solar Empire (Closest to Homeworld IMO, mods)
Nexus: The Jupiter Incident (Great game, series should never have died. Nexus 2 could have set a new bar)
Sword of the Stars ('Total War' in space, good MP)
X-series (They are all great, X3:TC is the most recent)
Homeworld series (greatest space RTS ever created, real 3D combat. It's a must have. Sadly, it is not on any DD services)

Freelancer and Freespace 2 (mods FTW both are 'must haves')

Notes:
Sins of a Solar Empire has a stand alone expansion in fall, wait for it
X-Series has an expansion in fall with a new engine, wait for it
Sword of the Stars II is coming out in August (better graphics, all the original races), wait for it

Star Raiders and Star Ruler deserve a look at, lots of potential, great indies.

I don't know much about Star Wolves Series or Starpoint Gemini (both look cool)

Love Space Rangers, Closest thing that you can get to Elite which is odd because its entirely 2D. Truly an underrated gem that anyone who loves the genre should play.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is a damn fine game also.
