Can't activate MW2. Are servers down?

I try to install retail Modern Warefare 2.

At product activation, I put in serial and I get:

"Steam Servers not available

Your computer is either currently unable to reach the Steam servers, or the srevice may be temporarily disabled. Please try again later."



I've tried switching server locations through steam client. I went to Stats page and saw a huge drop in number of players online. Is anyone else having problems?

I'm back up and running now

Yeah I lost connection earlier too. Back up now but did notice some of the recorded gameplay time on my steam community page has been lost.

Which part of "Please try again later" is unclear?

Users fell to around 800,000.

But now the Stats page shows a drop to only 2,040,000.

Because 72% of these threads wouldn't exist if people did as they were told in the error message.

I have had a similar incident and I am also waiting.

You could try deleting your blob files if you think it's a PC issue and not a server issue.

I'm having issues activating Dirt3 right now, so it could be a server issue.

Also, I tried changing to a different server, but no luck.

Same issue with activating Portal 2. Support ticket's in the pipe. C'mon Valve, we have transactions to make, games to play, portals to be made. D:
