Can you add games you already own to steam?

I just wanted to know is it possible to add a game to steam that your purchased from another online pc retailer. So that I can access my friends list and other steam features for example I have battlefield bad company 2 already from another pc retailer( ea store) is it possible to add my copy of battlefield to my steam so that I can still access all the features that steam allows you to access while playing a steam purchased game such as your friends list and in game voice chat

You can't "activate" Bad company on steam. But, what you can do is go to your library and "add non steam game" This will let you have the features you want. For a full list of games you can actually activate on steam, go here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...7480-WUSF-3601
