Steam Cards at 7/11, Walmart, Target?
I've noticed that plenty of companies have made special cards that you purchase and redeem them online for "points". Microsoft, Sony, all have done this. I would like to see something like this for Steam, Valve I know you guys made the Steam wallet but why not have it where you can walk into a store and buy a 10$ card that has 10$ that you can use online without using credit cards? This works out great with the kids who get lunch money and save a little for a Steam card and then they can use it online (steam) and get games without their parents saying "no". This sounds like a great idea I would like to do this because it just seems easier to me and others.

Kinda defeats the 'digital' nature of steam.

I think pre-paid Steam cards are a great idea, I'm surprised they haven't implemented them yet. I know a few people who think Steam is great but don't use it or buy games on it because they don't have a credit card. There's two stores just in the mall near me that sell lots of different pre-paid cards for all sorts of online services, and people do buy them. I regularly notice people buying the movie ones, although I'm not sure which site they're for.

As much as I support this, I imagine that this idea is as old as Steam itself.
At least Valve should give us an official statement about your reasons as to why it hasn't happened. |

probably because of the cost associated with printing the cards, designing and implementing the backend, shipping all the cards out to the stores, and paying the stores to keep them there.
It costs more than you think. thats probably why they havent done it. |

I'm sure they'll do it some day. There are a lot of sites (many that are smaller than this one) that sell cards for microtransactions, etc.

Lol. Having fun with them banks screwing your moneis? Hmm?
Also i bet this thread was made because people were like asking their parents for credit card money and they said no lulz (like me) and missed out some epic deals. Oh by the way, This prepaid cards take time to activate too. Defeats the purpose of buying on steam. Who'd like to wait 10 days to start downloading a game? I'd rather buy it on GameStop (Not like anyone does that...right?) |

To me, a pre-paid steam card is like the closest thing to Worms Reloaded on retail.
