Be wary of a game-breaking bug in this game. (Spoilers)

Special note about The Longest Journey. There's a game-breaking bug that might creep up in the game during the construction of a certain tool in the earlier chapters. It forces you to start over if you don't have a previous save. It happened to me, and I had to start over.

Spoiler:
During the construction of the "tool" needed to get the Key in the Subway, you must build it in the correct order or you get stuck. First, apply the inflated Blue Duck to the Clamps taken from the water pumps, and THEN use the Clothesline on it. If you use the clothesline first, and then the duck, the game will not register the string as attached. April will then say "I still can't reach it" when she tries to go for the key.

ya i did this wrong twice but luckily i had saved before

Funny I did it in the order you say not to and it worked fine.

As I said it wasn't definitive and seems to have a random chance of creeping up.
