Trine help/FAQ (framerate, refresh rate, everything!)
Hi folks,
I'll be adding frequently asked questions and other helpful tips here for Trine. If you have a problem or other question, please create a topic for it. (I'll keep this thread locked for simplicity.) ### How to change the refresh rate for TVs/etc Trine by default has a refresh rate of 50. This can cause trouble with some setups, such as htpcs and TVs in general. To change this, locate the options.txt file, e.g. C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\trine\config\options. txt Open the file and locate the "Display" section. Add "refresh_rate_override = 60" to the end of the Display section (your refresh rate may differ). When done, it's best to make options.txt write-protected (right-click, Properties, check "Read only"). Otherwise the game may overwrite the file with other settings (this can cause some other trouble later, e.g. when you complete the game our "failsafe" detection may fail, but it's probably the lesser of two evils and shouldn't be needed normally - in any case you can use a shortcut method to prevent this). example of Display section: Code:
Display
{
anisotrophy = 2
antialias_active_samples = 2
antialias_samples = 2
brightness = 1.000000
contrast = 1.000000
gamma = 1.000000
maximize_window = 0
render_use_vsync = 1
saturation = 1.000000
screen_bpp = 32
screen_height = 1080
screen_width = 1920
window_titlebar = 0
windowed = 0
refresh_rate_override = 60
}
The game runs very slow! This can happen with many integrated graphics chipsets. If the game displays correctly but simply does not run well, then you should try lowering all the graphics settings. You can find out the exact framerate by opening the ingame console with the F8 key and writing: /show_fps 1 This will show the framerate in the upper-left corner. You can also halve the render resolution with: /render_half_resolution 1 That means that if you launch the game at 1024x768, but use the above option, the menus and the user interface are displayed at 1024x768 but the actual game is rendered in 512x384. This improves performance, and might be tolerable. If the game does not look correct, then either your graphics card can't handle the game (most likely it's an Intel integrated one then - we have very limited support for Intel graphics and only the most recent ones work ok), or your game data is corrupt (please re-download/verify cache in this case). ### I'm stuck? Help? Savegames? Usually you can get by any situation by taking another look at it, but if you're really puzzled, you can check YouTube for some helpful videos. There are loads of Let's Play -type videos focusing on Trine. The same goes for hunting all the experience vials and treasure chests. You can also download savegames from http://trine-thegame.com/help/savegames/ (check the helpful video to see how to use the savegames) Savegames may cause some issues with Steam Cloud, so read on for help with that. ### Trine uses Steam Cloud - can I disable it? Trine by default uses Steam Cloud (Windows and Mac, cross-compatible). However, you can disable Steam Cloud by the game console or by editing config/options.txt (if you want to completely disable Steam Cloud, you can make the file write-protected). If you would like to use e.g. a savegame, here's a normal process: 1. Download the savegame and put it to \profiles\default\save 2. Edit config\options.txt and find the line "steam_cloud_enabled = 1" (it's near the middle of the file, under Game) and change that to 0, save the file and then right-click it and choose Properties. 3. Launch the game, and go check that your new save appears in the Options / Saveslots menu. 4. If so, open the ingame console with F8 button, and write: "saveToSteamCloud" and press enter (case sensitive, without quotes). This sends the local saves to Steam Cloud. 5. Then to finish things, re-enable Steam Cloud in the console by writing: "/steam_cloud_enabled 1" and press enter. That's it. ### How do I enable NVIDIA 3D Vision? Simple answer: It's enabled by default. If you have 3D Vision on, just launch the game and it should display in 3D. Note that you may have to modify the refresh settings on some setups to get it working properly (see above). Also note that some of the menus etc are not in proper 3D, but the actual game should be quite fine. ### Further help will be added later - you can also check our Humble Frozenbyte Bundle FAQ for some additional issues. We'll be migrating everything into one place at some point but right now we haven't had the time to do so properly, sorry about that. __________________ // Joel, Frozenbyte team, developers of Trine, Trine 2, Shadowgrounds & SG Survivor - Follow us on Twitter Last edited by JoelFB: 07-04-2011 at 07:25 AM. |

You can email them to support or just post them here on the forums. We don't have any big plans for the original Trine so minor bugs probably won't get fixed, but it's always good to know.

What is Trine_Setup_109? After a google search looks like it's a crack or some warez version. So this cracked version could be the reason for your start issue. Buy the original game, should work then. Or try the official demo at first. I have a i5-3570K and it runs flawlessly with the onboard HD4000.

And the game version is up to date or 1.09 as the name suggests? As for the Steam version, from demo to the recent 1.19 Intel HD Graphics 3000 and 4000 worked without any issue for me. Here a gameplay video from my HD4000 I recorded some time ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wxX5Qafiaw
(since 1.17 or 1.18 higher detail settings doesn't run that good anymore due to graphics improvements). |

Trine 1 1.10 runs fine for me as well. I'm on 8.15.10.2761 but I doubt the newer driver will help.
