New Vegas freezing on load menus

I've recently been getting a problem where the game will just stay stuck on loading menus. The roulette wheel still spins, but it never leaves the screen. I always have to open task manager to quit the game, in which it says New Vegas was not responding.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and I only started having problems at about 7 hours in. Before that, everything worked perfectly.

I have the exact same thing.

Im running NVSE v 2 beta8 plus quite a few mods, but it does not behave like a conflict to be honest.

Unfortunately the most reliable solution that I have found to this issue, is to just keep an updated QuickSave by pressing the F5 button every now and then, especially before doing anything that will cause the load screen to appear.

I do not use Win764 so I think it's safe to say your OS may not be the cause of this specific problem.

The only time I've had this happen was when I would quick-travel to a location that was far away, like the other side of the map basically. Only happened to me three times in the 30+ hours I've put into this game. My suggestion is just make sure you've quick-saved before you do any traveling like this (using your world map and quick-traveling). This way, should the game crash you just need to re-load your game + save again. It is a little annoying but overall the actual game and so forth seems to be stable for me on the three machines I've tried it on. Once in a blue moon I get a crash. But it's usually after having played for many hours straight without quitting the game.

Also watch where you quick-save. I've had times where I saved out in the open parts of the map (where it's possible for enemies to spawn) and when I re-loaded this quick-save, enemies appeared out of no where that weren't there previously. It really caught me off-guard.

I'm having this problem as well and I also have 64-bit Windows 7. I've been playing Dead Money and dying a lot and usually, I have to restart the game every time it tries to load. Verifying the game cache and restarting Steam does not solve this.

I have that problem as well and I'm using Vista 32 bit. Weird.

Edit: It worked for me to load an older save and then load my quicksave.

Same problem.

The loading older save and then loading newer thing works for me as well, however, I'm almost frightened to move from one location to the next any more, as it has been freezing on my about 50% of the time. This is an incredibly frustrating glitch.

If there's any body out there who knows a real fix of any kind, I would be eternally grateful.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but this only ever happened to me in Freeside. Up until then it was perfect, but since the freezing started I haven't even been able to leave.

Does anybody know how often the developers release patches? I know one was just released earlier this month, but as of now, the game is unplayable for me.

EDIT: It seems my earlier suspicion was correct. This is only happening to me in Freeside. I managed to fast travel to Goodsprings, and I haven't had a problem since.

One was just released. I really don't know how long since the last one it's been though.

Same thing for me though. I'm just going to let the game sit in my Steam library until I get another patch, I guess.

I'm having this issue now, as well. But only when I try to Enter the Strip. Either by loading a save, leaving a casino, entering from Freeside...

I don't understand, last night I played in the strip for a few hours. No glitches -- I've touched nothing, installed no mods, it hasn't updated... but it just refuses to cooperate today. Infinite load for the lose.

It's been a classic issue with the Gamebryo engine since Bethesda first used it. The more you push the engine the worse the crashing/freezing. And since Obsidian is using the engine Bethesda modded, expect more crashes per patch than ever before.

I've seen this happen since Morrowind. The Gamebryo engine was a huge mistake to keep using. It's as out dated as the Unreal 3 engine as stable as a Ritalin kid off his medication. Thank god Bethesda finally let it go in favor of a completely new one for Skyrim. Lets hope it's stable.

This only happens to me if I try to load a save that is in exterior cell (from main menu), what I do first is load a save file from a interior cell like Doc Mitchell's house, and then load any save file from there.

OT: Well, from what I heard it's not a new engine as they said one time but rather an updated Gamebryo.

I have this issue as well. I started playing a few days before the recent patch. After the patch (was in freeside casino) I upgraded to nvse beta 8 and walked over to the energy gun store across the street.

When I left the gun store, the game crashed and I cannot load any save. It just spins the wheel on the loading screen. NVSE beta9 does not help
