How to "gib" an enemy?

There's an achievement, the "All is Dust" - Gib 1337 enemies. I have 0. So, my question is, how can I gib an enemy, and what is "gib" means, because I don't understand this word, and I cannot translate it, because not of any translator knows this word or translate it to a word what is not understandable in this situtation.

Can anyone tell me what this is?

I'm not really sure where it originally came from but it's a term that's pretty much limited to gaming; it's when you kill an enemy with a critical hit in such a way that they explode into bits.

Then I think it's a little buggy, because I killed more than 1337 enemies in this way already, but not a single one is recorded, because the achievement meter is stays at 0.

I think you need to shoot an enemy to smithereens with a grenade. Possibly tossing a grenade against a group of Walkers or Chargers should raise your amount of gib kills quickly. Im not sure if you can gib Runners, though.

As far as I know, 'gibbing' an enemy is making them explode to pieces by an explosive.

The term comes from old FPS games (quake, unreal, etc), as the folks above mentioned its when you kill someone in such a way they blow up into tiny chunks. It comes from the word giblet, you know, the tiny gunky things that chickens and turkeys have.

You blow someone up so bad their parts are the size of giblets.

I've spent way too much time playing FPSes in my lifetime...

I've gibbed tons of critters in this game and am at 50/1337, so it seems to count some gibs but not all. Or mabey that achievement is a bit buggy.

237/1337 for me with 4 hours of gameplay. Seems to be working fine.

198/1337 after 72 minutes of gameplay.

Yeah, try using the grenades.

1100/1337 after 41 hours of play. What can I say? I like explosions.

Also: Wikipedia knows. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gib_%28video_gaming%29
Found using Google.
