Theres these stairs in the start area behind a door.
Is that how to get up to the next floor?
Do the random stairs scattered around lead to floor 0 and not 2?

Actually, you go down. There are stairs at every level.

There are 10 floors in this game. You start on the first floor and descend all the way to 10. Stairs that go up take you to the higher floor (so on floor 2, you go back to floor 2). Stairs that go down take you to the next floor (so on floor 2, you go to floor 3).

Floor 1 does not have upward stairs. Floor 10 does not have downward stairs.

The stairs at the beginning are the entrance to the dungeon. The gate must have closed behind when entering the dungeon.
