Fireball op?
Is it just me or is the fireball of Promethean magic a bit overpowered? If you go near pure wizard it can kill almost anything in 1 hit (may take a few turns to finally burn to death though) and deals with larger groups very efficiently. Mana can be an issue at the beginning but once you level up fireball becomes cheaper, your mana pool grows and you can level up your supporting skills. Especially blood mage skill makes you able to spam fireballs without worry in the world. Whenever I encounter monster zoo I giggle for joy because of the easy experience boost. Promethean magic also has awesome summon familiar skill that is immensely useful early game.
Here is my build that works well even on hardcore rogue: Promethean magic - Use you first skill points up to the fireball. Last two spells are useless. Really the only magic skill you need. Magic training - Eventually max this skill. Blood mage - Max this skill after you get fireball. Ley walker - Not that useful in rogue but better than nothing. Perception & archaeology - Two skills to boost your trap skills. Really the only thing to worry in later levels are the really deadly traps. Archaeology is also a solid skill on its own. Wand lore - Makes wands reusable. Helps early game and some more powerful wands may come handy in emergencies. |

I strongly recomment to replace one of your skills with mathemagic.
It has teleport which is very handy for getting out of trouble and kiting and the recursive curse. Cast this and any monster is dead because it keeps taking away hp until the monster is dead. It takes 2 turns for most enemies, some need more. |

Nah, I don't think it is worth it just for the teleport. Recursive curse is unnecessary as fireball to the face is cheaper and just as effective. At least I think it is as I don't really know the actual damage of these spells. On normal difficulty I think I killed Dredmor with just 5 fireballs while he was busy fighting my wyrmling.
If you would want to use another magic skill you could always remove perception & archaeology for tinkering which gives a huge traps bonus and for said magic skill. |

Fireball isn't much more "OP" than most other skill lines if you upgrade 'em enough.
If anything comes close to OP, it's probably Vampirism... |

I use teleport to get away if things become too dangerous, to be able to get to items that are blocked and to bypass traps

vampirisms useless since if you take fungal arts you can get like a million mushrooms that give you the effect anyway and you can still eat other foods, plus you get other bonus's, summons that don't cost mana and there's tons of mushroom buffs....I took alchemy, astrology and mushroom arts and I'm unstoppable with all my buffs....

lol, vampirism. good luck against dredmor. He will 2-shot kill you. And then you have to run around forever, unable to heal because if you stop to attack, dredmor will hit and kill you. |

Vampirism is potent, but not nearly the overpowered skill people take it to be. It really shines in the middle levels when your defenses are strong enough to trade blows with enemies and become a perpetual motion machine.
However, once you get higher in level you just can't keep defenses against all the different damage types enemies can do. You start to lose the race and really start to struggle. Not to mention that high level traps will ruin your day. Sure, you can always go back to earlier levels and farm health, but the deeper you go the longer it takes and the harder monsters respawn.
