Steam Error... No Steam login stored on this computer...?

Hi Folks,

I don't know why but whenever I load up Steam I get a small error window which reads:

Steam Error

Unable to connect to the Steam Network. 'Offline Mode' is unavailable because there is no Steam login information stored on this computer.

You will not be able to use Steam until you can...

I have no idea how this even happened, I use steam alot but now there seems to be nowhere of using it... Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated...

I had the same issue. What I did to resolve it:

In online mode, go to settings and check "don't save credentials"
Hit ok
Log out and exit steam
Launch steam and log in
Go back to settings and uncheck "don't save credentials"
Logout and exit steam
Launch steam and log in

It started working for me after doing this dance.

I can't get into online mode, that's the only message that appears. Is there anyway of solving this without trying to Launch steam on my desktop? Anything online on my ID etc?

Can someone at Steam please look at this problem? It's absolutely ridiculous! Why should I spend my money on something that doesn't work?

I attempted this fix, didn't work.

This is a recent problem to crop up, hoping Valve fixes it soon.

I've got the same exact problem. I will have a bigger issue when I deploy to overseas with the army. So what am I supposed to do if I don't have a reliable internet connection at my overseas site? I bought into steam, buying all these games at a discounted price...only to have an offline mode that "requires" an internet connection? That is either bugged software, or purposely misleading marketing. Please fix this issue steam. MANY SOLDIERS OVERSEAS DO NOT HAVE RELIABLE CONNECTIONS. WHAT IS THE USE OF "OFFLINE MODE" IF IT DOESN'T WORK AS INTENDED?

The solution I found for this problem is to check the save password box when you connect to steam. Then when you go offline it won't have any problems since you now have saved your credentials to the computer. This just started happening when I updated a few days ago.

This was happening on my Laptop and Desktop so I know it was client side. It fixed both.

I'm having the same problem here. Just now I tried booting up steam but then it keeps crashing and I tried to delete the blob file and redownload. But then when i tried rebooting steam for the 1st time this problem came up, but on 2nd time it got in and started downloading, only to stop at random % and never completing. Why does Steam have to be so frustrating to use? What a crappy bull program. I couldn't play TF2 because of this problem today. :/

Try a fresh re-install of Steam if you wish to and follow this support article on doing it:

See how things work out from that. Good luck

Alright, because every thread I check doesn't have someone saying, "HEY, this fixed worked for me too!", I'll be that person. Had this exact same error, then did what chronobomb said, and saved the password when I logged in online. Then, from online mode, I switched to offline. Problem solved (for me,at least).

So, yeah, thanks chronobomb.

As far as I can tell, if you don't put STEAM into an "off-line" mode while you have an Internet connection you are risking the possibility of getting screwed by this problem.

When you are in the following situation:
  • In the middle of nowhere (north Scotland), with no possible way of getting an Internet connection.
  • On a family holiday.
  • With every member of the family having a separate STEAM account.
  • With different games on each STEAM account.
  • And only a shared net-book between you.

Then STEAM becomes pretty much useless unless you can agree which account you want to put into off-line mode before you go. And once you've done it, you can't change it.

It's very annoying.

Never has been driving a few miles into an area with houses in search of an unsecured Wireless access-point seemed so tempting.
