Everything has to stop for steam?

Cmon steam/valve, who ever.

When i download a game it stops me doing anything else with my 3 mg line, soooooooo i turn steam on and start downloading and i cant do anything else on the web without it take 10 feking minutes to load up.

We NEED a download limit adding so we can set the limit to 100kb/s or whatever speed we choose, so it allows us to do other things on the net other than the most important thing in the world, downloading steam games......

geeeeeez, Sort it out steam.

How many threads of this nature need to be posted be4 u do somthing about it??

I don't have this problem at all steam always leaves me plenty.
maybe you need to select a better bandwidth setting in steam , but that never created a problem for me either.

does not really matter what line I have now , I have a 1.2MB/s speed now but before this line got a free upgrade it was 300kb/s.
before that I had a 2.7MB/s connection and had many others.
even if I tether my mobile phone to the PC and download with that I can browse the internet(just).

try putting it on 56k in steam maybe it helps.

just thinking out of the box but if you are australian and use one of those tools for steam downloads try disabling that.

I do not think you are australian but you could be in it(the country).

steam will download at my full speed too but if I do anything else that uses bandwidth I can do that without problems.
I watch a lot of tv online and what not and never noticed a problem.

are you on a wireless connection?
try it wired I bet that will fix it.

Maybe use some sort of network manager or your router to prioritize web traffic over steam's traffic. QoS styles. I use a killer nic 2100 so I think it does that for me

This sort of feature is coming in the soon-ish future: http://store.steampowered.com/news/5856/

Doesn't really help you right now, though.

Not a problem for many of other users, so maybe play around with your internet settings or ring up your internet provider.
