Fallout New Vegas - Frame rate drops

I have played this game for quite some time, never had a single issue since launch. I stopped playing for a few months, and just acquired a couple of the DLC's during the summer sale.

I installed the dlc, and now to my dismay every couple of minutes or so, the frame rate drops to a slideshow. It lasts for a minute or 2 and then I'm back to a constant 60 frames. Any idea why this happens, or if there is a fix or a setting? Is it related to one of the DLC's maybe?

I am using an ATI 6850, 8gb Ram, Win 7 64 bit, AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.1 Ghz, latest version of catalyst and DX. I even tried uninstalling and re-installing the game with no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The NV DLC's have nearly broken the performance for other people. It's probably just a stability issue with the devs. Did you install any mods?

Im having this issue too. I never had any frame rate issues for FNV, but I reinstalled recently to play the DLCs and I find that after 30-40 minutes, it starts to have 10 fps or that it just straight up crashes. I also find that specific areas (in the gulch near the Magnetohydraulics Complex) my frames are fine, but sound is desynced and lagging. Weapon switches also don't work properly until I bring up the pipboy. Really strange stuff, and I've never experienced this in the countless hours of vanilla FNV.

I haven't installed any mods, just the Dead Money and Honest Hearts DLC. Like Cent, I have played the game since vanilla with no issues whatsoever, for countless hours. Very frustrating!

Perhaps the old memory leak issue people were having with Fallout 3 and NV? I thought they fixed that, but my framerate drops dramatically after a couple hours of play.

This is pretty frustrating. Has anyone out there had a similar issue and found a fix?

I get occasional frame rate drops as well with my GTX580. It usually happens after I exit out of a dialogue box or whenever a new area is loaded in the game. I've tried doing the same things as what you did but the problem still persists. You are not alone my friend.

Sorry you are experiencing this as well, but good to know it is affecting others. Hope it gets a fix!

Also, interestingly, it seems that the opening music on the title screen starts about 10 seconds late... weird.
