vvvvvv ver2.0 does not support steam overlay???

don't wanna sound like an as* but i really love steam overlay on my games so i can browse and chat while im playing. When the game was written in flash, it could support steam overlay because it used direct3d...but now it seems like it no longer has the option to use hardware acceleration so i can't use steam overlay anymore????

Steamworks isn't implemented in this version of the game, but a patch is coming soon which will include it, +cloud saving and achievements!

thanks terry but steam overlay could actually work automatically without any steamworks if a game is supporting hardware acceleration. The one where we press and hold shift+tab during any full screen games. That used to work on the previous version of the game though. But either way, can't wait for other steamworks features!! awesome!

thanks!

Hey, if developer is reading this, maybe you could make retroactive achievements? Many people are already playing your game from HIB right now :-)

I can't wait for the next update. I've tried a little bit the C++ version, and it doesn't have any of the annoying control behaviors it previously had.

The character no longer skids like crazy, it doesn't skip frames randomly, it moves when I input the command, and it ALWAYS moves when I input the command, not randomly when it feels like doing so.

If I press left, it moves left, ALWAYS!
With the Flash version it was "Press Key and pray" all the time.

If I move to a border and press the action key right at the border, it always changes gravity.
You don't know how important is that to me, since I tend to wait to the last second to jump in platformer games.
With the Flash version I would fall half of the time, after the game ignored my input.

I can't thank you enough for taking the time to recode the game.

The level editor looks great too. I'll try to make some time to mess around with it.

Native Gamepad support (at least XBox 360 compatible ones) would be last touch to cap it all. Maybe you have considered it.

Steam Overlay should work in any game, regardless of Steamworks integration.

True, do we know if the game IS using hardware acceleration?

If I had to guess (and judging from the DLLs in the game folder) I'd say the game is currently using pure SDL for the graphics.
Incidentally, the SDL DLL, being open source, should be fairly easy to kludge a bit, forcing a graphics backend that plays nice with the steam overlay. In theory anyway.

I'd play around with it myself, but I need those hours for other things, especially since I don't particularly care

ALSO! The game does not appear to comply with The SDL license.
I understand it was rushed, but bad form and also copyright infringement

According to the SDL FAQ:

Quote:
Windows

Two versions, one safe for all systems based on Win32 APIs, and one with higher performance, based on DirectX APIs
Safe version uses GDI for video display. High performance version uses !Direct3D for video display, taking advantage of modern hardware acceleration
So maybe the game is using the GDI 'safe' version. I do seem to have quite poor performance running at any resolution above 640x480 with version 2.0, whereas the old flash version used to run fine at my monitor's native resolution (1280x1024). Perhaps this explains it.

If I remember correctly before the version 2 update VVVVVV supported OpenGL and with that on you got the steam overlay. Also without it there's no longer smoothing in fullscreen which I'm kindof missing being that I'm playing this on a 50 inch TV. On version 1 I fullscreened it and it used my native resolution 1920x1080 and smoothed the graphics as well. So version 2 is seeming like quite a big step down being that all I have now is unsmoothed 1024x768 and no steam overlay.

Exclamation So... ?

So when's this update coming? It seems kind of weird that an official steam-game (be it not a steamworks-game) doesn't support the overlay.

OMG! I just got this game and I think is amazing (I had tried the demo before and I liked it). If this is true, I can't wait for it!
