The evolution of the start menu...
The humble start menu has reached what appears to be it's final iteration after it was revealed that Windows 8 would be based on the Metro interface with a "start" app instead of the iconic menu as the main place to access programs. Because of this I decided to setup a quick picture to show how far the start menu has come. (The menus are from Windows 98, XP and 7) http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/5445/legacyl.jpg

The Metro interface is optional, you can still use the start menu.

Maybe, but there's still more than a year to go till final release. There could be some changes in the meantime.

I don't think I'll be using the new interface. It seems to be designed for a touchscreen interface, and I have no intention to ever have that in the home.

that metro interface looks not very optimized for 'real' usage
its a good overlay for media consumtion on tablets but im more intrested in interface additions for the 'real' desktop i dont think they expect us to build websites or do work on that interface ... |
