When we meet... (Spoilers.)

Amabel, we hallucinate she's an Tuurngait. However, why does this hallucination attack us and hurt us? Is Amabel hurting us? Why is the hallucination attacking us (causing damage) if Amabel would surely be happy to see us?

Theres a huge thread on the Frictional forums that speculates about it for page upon page...

It was just easier for me to think that Philip hallucinated her attacking him when maybe she was just trying to give him a hug or something.

Your brain can be fooled into thinking something is happening when its really not... look at drug usage and hypochondriacs. Its probably not too much of a stretch to think that the brain would think the body was taking actual physical damage when in fact it was not.

Haha, alright: http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-1958.html

Its not nearly as long as I had thought it was... could have sworn it was like 6+ pages. I may have been thinking of a different thread, but oh well, it pretty much outlines the arguments.

I figured it was just Clarence f***ing with you. She was probably really confused, standing under the thing and watching you run around the room freaking out.

I think it is the hug theory cause earlier in the game, she says when you rescue her, she will give you "the biggest hug of your life" or something of the such.

I have come to the conclusion that Amabel was most likely infected like phillip was. Still maintaining some kind of control and at some point after her original messages the infection over took her. As with that guy and the SAW he gives you early on. Hell maybe she was never not infected and Clarence just hallucinated you some more . But anyway Clarence IMO hallucinated Amabel being human just to make you feel like a . When really you just major clutch saved your own life

amabel wasn't infected, she "attacked" because she wanted to give you a hug, it "hurt" when she touched you because that was clarence messing around with you

i can understand your logic there with the hug theory but don't you reckon she would have stopped trying to hug you after you ran around the room for awhile lifting up a box or whatever it was
