Do the actual game usually live up to preview images...in your mind?

I was thinking of this just now. When I played HL2 and DOOM3,...again on this new computer, I didn't see the "Aww" factor that I saw in the screen shots that previewed the game.

Even gameplay tech demo videos for DOOM3 looked better.

I'm not sure if it's me actually playing the game and being invested in it that makes the graphics not stand out, but it seem a lot of games just don't seem as good as their previews.

HL2 was a lot better than any screenshots or previews for me.
I still remember my "WOAH!" moment when I opened the station gate and see the town square.
