The Stanley Parable

Behold the latest in experimental HL2/Source Mods that seek to toy with the story-based aspect of gaming and storytelling!

Check it out here.

Quote:
The Stanley Parable is an experimental narrative-driven first person game. It is an exploration of choice, freedom, storytelling and reality, all examined through the lens of what it means to play a video game.

You will make a choice that does not matter

You will follow a story that has no end

You will play a game you cannot win

...it's actually best if you don't know anything about it before you play it
THis isn't made by me, BTW. I'm just a messenger for the people of SPUF.

It's a game that's really short, but you should still take your time to go and play it. I think it'll be more than worth the time taken.

Thumbs up Short but very well done.

I found:

1 Followed all instructions to the end.
2 Punished.
3 Quit. You're told to do it.
4 Died in the street.
5 Made the narrator happy... for now.
6 Boom!
and
7 "Please die."

Are there more endings?

EDIT: Forgot this one, but it might be a bug.
If you close the door at the beginning before leaving, you're stuck there. Period.

This mod is flipping awesome, satirically funny, and short enough to easily play through in one sitting. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of storytelling in videogames. If you enjoyed Dear Esther or Tedium, you'll love this mod.

I don't think the third ending that EricVela listed is a real "intended" ending. It's more or less the same as ending 2.

How'd you get 3, 5, and 7?

Edit, Ahh, 3 is just an extention of 2.

The narration really makes this. Otherwise it's all pretty basic and straightforward. Still, a fun way to spend an hour or so and it's free, can't beat that!

I've only had a very quick go at this so far (I ended up with ending #4), but I certainly enjoyed it.

The narration is definitely the most important part of the experience and it adds a great deal. I really love to see experimental projects like this, especially so long after Half-Life 2 was initially released.

You can install this without Half-Life 2 for free! http://www.moddb.com/engines/source/...e-box-released Install that Sdk base and put the Stanley Parable normally into sourcemods folder and then it appears to steam after restarting it Worked for me!

I'm extremely fond of this mod. I felt like I was playing a Choose Your own Adventure story. I've always thought of many video games as interactive stories. This is why I'm glad that some video games actually take time with the plot--instead of making it just a shoot stuff until you get bored.

Is there a way to stop the timer/nuke if you turn on the generator?
