warning, clearing your flash cookies will delete the saves for this game
I wish the game had mentioned this before I shut down my computer yesterday. The better privacy addon for firefox deletes all my flash cookies on close. I didn't realise it was going to take my machinarium save away too. I was at the arcade machines part. Pretty annoyed now.

better privacy vs firefox clear data
wow I was just thinking about this issue a few hours before looking here...
BetterPrivacy removing flash cookies has been obsoleted by flash itself providing an API for clearing flash cookies, and Firefox using this API when you go to Clear Recent History. when I saw this I decided to keep BetterPrivacy and I just added Machinarium.exe to the protect list (this only protects from BetterPrivacy though) |

I also lost my progress in this game (160 minutes game time). Until this save mechanism is changed, I will postpone attempting to play through the game.

I had to play this game in one run, because I have Flash restricted so it doesn't do many of the annoying things Flash does, including saving cache or cookies.
And no way on earth I'm changing that. Ever. I really hope HTML5 definitely kills and buries Flash forever. DEEP. Last edited by MithranArkanere: 08-09-2011 at 07:24 PM. |

If you use CCleaner or some other system cleaning utility, you'll need to set it to not delete Flash cookies too.

Yeah you can use the save importer/exporter, or exclude the savegame from the CCleaner search.

yeah, CCleaner is a great program but it will also delete your flash data by default
to anyone who lost their progress, you can type "rebol" on the keyboard to enable a cheat menu that will allow you to skip ahead to different parts in the game. I would go back to a point shortly before where you left off. i think hitting the "item" button gives you whatever items you are supposed to have at that point |

I don't think Steam Cloud works properly for Flash games, but I might be wrong.

Wow, was thinking about buying this, but this is a big turn off. Why would a game keep its game saves in flash cookies? It's not a browser based game, right?

It keeps its saves in flash cookies because it's a flash-based game.

it saves in cookies because it potentially is a browser based game, you can play the demo in your browser for example.
