So I'm not sure where to start.
I've played the game before- a million times. I would download a hundred mods, start the game, check them out, and then it would start crashing. So I'd stop. And try again a year later.
This time I got the graphics overhaul and a mod that makes it so you hit 100% of the time you hit (no dice roll bull♥♥♥♥ when I'm playing in a 3D space where it's NOT NECESSARY) that also keeps things fair and proper via some tricks, as well as MADD leveling or whatever. And I'm gonna play vanilla-y for a while. But I'm kinda lost. I made my character sort of a mage (not that it really matters with Madd level thingy). But I have no magic...and no idea where to get some. Do I get it as I level? Do I have to buy it somewhere? |

You get magic by increasing your Intelligence and with your birthsign. Atronach is by far the best sign in Morrowind (not in Oblivion, even though the sign does the same). Last edited by in.meinem.turm.: 08-08-2011 at 08:28 AM. |

I could not possibly care less if someone thinks it is cheating. This is a 3D game played in a 3D visual space- using dice rolls to determine whether my sword hits when I can SEE whether or not it hits is an incredibly stupid concept.

You don't play any DND games on the PC do you?

No, I don't.
Look, it's very simple. The DND dice rolling system exists because in DND, there's no physical way to determine things like that. You can't throw an actual fireball from your character to see if it hits, you can't swing an actual sword to see if it hits, so you use stats and numbers. But in morrowind, a fully-controllable 3D game, you *can*. And for numbers and dice rolling to determine whether or not your sword hits when it physically, visually hits the enemy is asinine and totally unecessary. |

instead as a long time rpg, fps and paper rpg player i think that what you say is interesting. what defines rpg in these years? many games (expecially fps) seem to take many elements from rpg games. it is just complexity in character definiton and evolution that creates an rpg? i don't think so. maybe the most important thing is the story and the immersion (that's why it fits very well imho with first person view).it can be a very long discussion i know!

ok let me explain this better then with Spell Absorption the way it is in Oblivion with Atronach you can play a warrior or thief and remove spell damage from the game or better yet lower it to say 5-10% chance of damage and give your self almost 100 Spell Reflect and make it where they kill themselves. Atronach is a Powerful birthsign for non casters not Mages.

I said nothing about dice rolling in general. There's no way, physically, to determine whether or not an effect happens, stuff like that.
But for slashing a god damn sword, there's no ♥♥♥♥ing reason whatsoever that whether or not it hits can't be determined by whether or not it god damn hits. Doesnt matter anyway as the game is crashing at complete random often without many mods installed so I can't play anyway. God I hate this piece of crap. Maybe disabling UAC or whatever will fix it. |

The game is quite stable without mods. Every mod you install will make it crash more often though.

The only mods I have are the overhaul, madd leveling, and the aforementioned always hitting mod.

Assuming you're looking for more spells to cast, you can purchase those from a lot of spell vendors. When talking to these people, pick the "Spells" option in the dialogue screen. Arille in Seyda Neen, the starting village, can sell you a few of the basic spells. If you want to know where a specific spell can be found, you can check the UESP.
If you're looking for more maximum magicka (your bog-standard mana), you need to increase your Intelligence attribute one way or the other. |
