Unable to download Sniper Elite

Hello, Just bought the game to give it a try but I'm unable to download it. I did have a look around on the forums and other topics where it was said that the new steam client apparently sorts the problem of sniper elite not being able to download itself. I've tried re-downloading it about ten times in the last 3 hours but to no avail.

Would like to know if anyone else is facing a similar problem when it comes to downloading the game. Input would be appreciated, thanks.

Sorry, probably of no help, but I was able to download and install to 2 machines today - Win 7 on one and vista on the other.

What operating system are you using? And is there an error message about "Missing Configuration" or something?

MIK3K, If you were able to download and install on two systems with different OS' without problems, It possibly may be an issue with windows XP and Sniper Elite as I'm running Windows XP on my system.

KillaKanl0rd, The problem is that I'm not getting any error messages whatsoever and it is rather annoying. It would have been helpful if I got an error message of some kind as that would have given me something to fix. I've tried downloading and installing older and newer games and turns out, the only game with a download problem is Sniper Elite. I'm running windows XP SP3 on a core 2 duo 3.0ghz machine.

Do let me know what the support suggests, I'll be on a lookout for further fixes and keep you informed.

I noticed this too. Looking at various Steam Client updates, it seems to be a pressing issue. Past 2 updates to the client have had changes to improve Sniper Elite reliability, one for encryption, one for 'game not available'.

I'm betting they're working on it right now. Do you have anything else to play atm? Nice PC, mines a 2.93ghz duo ... with a gtx560 :P kinda need a cpu upgrade haha.

Are you using windows XP too?

I still have an 8800gt, I'll probably have to upgrade it later this year seeing how games are getting a lot more demanding. Maybe sell an arm or two. I have E.Y.E, terraria and Oblivion to keep myself busy for now. They've put up new betas, One for trading and the other for warhammer.

Perhaps someone will look this issue up and try implementing a fix before the next client release. Which I hope, is soon.

I have the same problem. It say "Steam error - An error occurred when installing Sniper Elite. (Missing Configuration".

Running on Win7 64 bit. Nothing to do with a dated card i guess. I am running it on 580GTX/2600K/8GB ram/OCZ Vertex 3 SSD with games on WD 2TB sata3 black. Still can't install anyway.

I'm running w7 64 bit. Yeah mate, I had the same issue. Needed an upgrade, so I convinced myself (trust me, it took a long time), and splurged on a decent card, my 9600gt wasn't holding up in Bad Company 2 :P

Haha, you better own Terraria, or I might feel generous and gift it to you for lols :P I have too many games... I guess I have a bargain addiction :\

I don't seem to be getting the missing configuration error but it might be something related to it. My best bet is something's going wrong when steam tries to pre-allocate hard drive space for the game to download itself. It usually names files as .gcf, .ncf but in the case of Sniper Elite, It creates a whole new folder called "Staging". Might be something with the pre-allocation or maybe an installation bug they overlooked last time. Hopefully steam support will reply to your ticket with a solution soon and we can get this game working.

None so far...still waiting for a solution. Any luck on your side with the support ticket? I did mail Martinoo the log file, they might be working on a fix or a beta as we speak. It probably would be helpful if all of you facing the same problem mailed him the log file as well, it helped them release a beta last time.

The first installation problem tread are posted on 24 July few tread below this. It had being almost a month with no solution. Never re'd any reply for my service ticket too. Anyway, i had also email matinoo my content_log file. Hope that help.
