Is Newegg giving the cloth map? Because that's what I want, and if it does, I may try to cancel my steam pre order.
Does anyone know?

Thats actually a good question. I'll have to check with their customer support, since nothing is mentioned on the webpage.

That is a good deal…

Quick question on preorders. Do they ship ahead of time to arrive to your house the official day of release or do they ship the day of and you have to wait a few extra days while everyone else is playing Skyrim?

It would have to lol it is a pre order bonus announced by the game company and isn't tied to specific stores, they all get it.

I think I'd still rather get it on Steam just for the convenience of auto-patching and the likely probability of a pre-load.

Well, I'm not sure, the webpage doesn't say anything, whereas Futureshop says it includes a map.

Edit:
Oh, yeah and another issue for me is that I would want steamworks. Being that new vegas uses steamworks is it not likely that Skyrim will too?

Well, New Vegas was developed by Obsidian, not Bethesda. Though Todd loves Steam. The gamestore here (GamaMania, The Netherlands) has Skyrim Special Edition as they call it. It's the game with the cloth map, for 50€.

The standard edition at futureshop has the cloth, that's the same price as steam. I went with steam because I like having it in my library.
And I'm not going to buy a collectors edition, it's too much and greatly overpriced (in my opinion)

I think you can just add the game's serial key to your account when you get it retail. Also, when you do that you pay less AND you don't have to download it from a busy server.

You can only do this if the game is steamworks. Which is what I am wondering about; Bethesda is not talking about this right now.

I'm also very curious to know if this will be a Steamworks title. I want to buy Skyrim on Newegg for $48 for I'd really like some Steam achievements. Is there anyway to know before the end of the 72-hour sale?

I'm afraid only if Bethesda releases that information, or we coordinate a raid on Bethesda headquarters and find out for ourselves.. Who's up for some Espionage?
