Graphics will not run on full?

I went into the options in Legendary and set the graphics to "Very High" but they looked terrible. I went back and changed them to "Very Low" and it seems that the graphics are actually staying on "Very Low" even when I select "Very High." Now, I'm not entirely sure why it's doing this, but every time I attempt to download/install the game, it says something about the version of PhysX I'm installing is older than the one I own and it says, "Cancelling installation of PhysX." It stayed that way for 45 minutes before I manually closed it. Now the game runs fine, but the graphics are always as low as they can possibly be. Anyone know how to fix this, or possibly just get the game to actually install properly without a force-close of the PhysX installer?

I've noticed this too. I think the problem is just that there isn't much noticeable different between the graphics settings.

I've not had this problem installing either the out-of-the-box version or the Steam version. Graphics look great to me running 1280x1024. What hardware are you using?

Not sure, I'm sort of a noob. All I know's is that I can play Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 just fine, but this game won't run on full. I looked up gameplay on youtube and the graphics are still pretty nice for a game this old, but the flames are literally made of large squares and no matter what changes I make to the graphics at all it's always running on the lowest possible.

If you have an ATI/AMD card try turning off surface format optimization, I've had that fire/flame etc. issue in other games and turning that off fixed it so it might just work in this game.

Well if it fixes the flames, that would be nice (I'll give it a go) but *Everything* is running on low. I set the graphics to low and it looked low. I set them to medium, no change. I set the to high, literally no change. It refuses to move from low.

Update: I opened the .exe under "properties" and ran the game with "256 Colors" checked and it will now run on medium specs, but still not high. What does this mean?

256 colors is a very old setting, for old CGA and EGA graphics... that setting shouldn't be used. I do know the menu has some bugs in it, possible that your settings just aren't saving properly? Make sure you click on the setting you're trying to adjust before trying to change it, then be sure to click where it says to accept the changes. If I remember correctly, clicking "back" can tweak a setting accidentally. I think hitting the Esc key to go back to the previous screen avoids this issue. It's one or the other, but just verify your setting change by going back into the screen to make sure it took, then leave the screen the same way you did prior. It's an annoyance, and probably my only real gripe about the game.

As for the fire effects... I've not encountered that, but you might have Steam verify the integrity of the file cache. Do this under the properties option in Steam. If a file is missing or corrupted it should fix that. Otherwise check to see if anti-aliasing for transparency is enabled in your video driver. If it is, disable it. That might help.

Here are sum pix of how the game looks for me on very high settings in a res of 1920x1080...

As you can tell...I even got AA injected into the game...this was done by injecting SMAA into the game...

Yeah, that's how it's supposed to look. Very nice screenshot, Stix.

Agerion: I'm kind of at a loss as to your problem without more information. I do know that ATI has issues with their drivers. You might just need a driver update.

Legendary uses the Unreal engine, which has a lot (and I mean, a lot) of configuration settings located in .ini files that can affect how the engine behaves. Look under My Documents\My Games\Legendary\PandoraGame\Config. In there you'll find a file called PandoraEngine.ini. This controls the game's render settings. There's a section in that file about 3/4 down titled [SystemSettings]. There's also a section at the very bottom called [AppCompat]. Could you copy the data from those two sections and paste it here? That might shed some light on what the game is doing to cause the graphics to run on low.

I am having the same problem. I have an Alienware M17xR3, with an Nvidia 460M graphics card. There are almost no textures, let alone colours. It kind of renders the game unplayable for me...

This is the exact problem I'm having. Everything is grey/silver and there are no textures.
