Same, no second moniter! if you have a second moniter it can be fixed! but please help the people who dont have a second moniter and post a fix!!! Or does anyone know whether they are going to release a patch?

I have three monitors and am using an old Windows Vista fix to keep this from happening.

Go into "steam\steamapps\common\dead island"
Right Click on "DeadIslandGame.exe" and click "Properties"
On the "Compatibility" tab, check "Disable desktop composition"

Now you can play the game without having to disable any monitors.
This is the fix. Just found out myself and came here to help out.

Same here. Also bugged in-game graphics (where you see large yellow squares and no walls etc) and highly distorted sound during cutscenes. The game is unplayable in it's current state.

At first I had a start up crash issue.
Here -> http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2123174

Played fine with dual screens for a day and a half. 8 hours sleep, PC still running.
And now black screen on start up. WTF?!

Fortunately disabling 2nd monitor did work for me.

THIS SOLUTION HELPED ME OUT!!!

I had trouble starting up the game, and tried all the suggested methods. But none of them worked, and cause I couldn't start it up, there were no video.scr file.

I then went to my steam folder\steamapps\common\dead island\DI\Data\game.ini

Then you just have to open the game.ini file using notepad or similar, scroll down to where it says Locale("En") Then correct the capital letter "E" to a small "e", so it says Locale("en") in stead, save and exit and the game should fire right up, without doing any compatability / aero disabled thingy.

And for the record, my game was bought as an english/russian version, where I only got the cd-key for activation through steam.

Hope this will help you guys out.

The compatibility mode thing worked for me. I've been playing this game since release and tonight was the first time I got to see the intro movie and logos. Before this, I had to hit windows key to bring it back to desktop, then click on the game in the task bar to re-activate it. Thanks for the info. Here's a quick system spec:

EVGA 750i with Q6600
560 Ti
Windows 7 Ultimate
Dual 22" monitors
