New Patch Gets Flagged As CRYPT.WIN32 Virus?
Just launched Steam, it started downloading the new Borderlands patch, next thing I know my ESET NOD anti-virus flags one of the files as a virus and quarantines it.
Screenshot: http://imgur.com/590hc Anyone else getting problems with these file with the AV of choice? Probably a false-positive but thought I'd mention it to see if anyone else has the same issue. |

ClamAV doesn't see anything wrong.

me too
Both Borderlands.exe and eye.exe from e.y.e. Cybermancy get the NOD32 probably virus alert. I submitted them to eset in the hopes an update will allow these executables. It would probably help if everyone else also submits them to get their analysis higher in the investigation queue.

Odd, I run ESET Smart Security and I've never received a warning about Borderlands.

If any anti-virus software flags BL as a virus 2+ years after BL's release, then something is wrong with the detection software. A vast majority of gamers do not have this problem with BL.

just had the same thing happen. nod32 flagged Orcs Must Die, E.Y.E, Borderlands, and Xotic. i chose to delete all of the .exe games it flagged. steam can just re-download them. if they get flagged again, well then i'm not playinig them until steam or eset fix something. chances are it's false positives, but there's nothing wrong with being careful!

I have the same problem too. It's weird I didn't even start Borderland, steam or any program related to this game. My PC has just boot into desktop and then it popped up the warning.

Clearly this problem is with the anti-virus program, not borderlands and other games. My anti-virus software (MS Essentials) does not flag it as virus.
And... When software is flagged as virus, a specific explanation should be provided. If the anti-software can't properly identify and provide information about the virus detected, then the anti-virus software is out-of-date, or is unreliable. |
