A friend died today

Hello Steam community,

Today a friend of mine passed away at around 2 AM. I hadn't been in too close of contact with him, but it was known he had cancer. I first met him in middle school, when the building first opened. We were apart of the first class to go through 6th, 7th and 8th grade there, while doing many mischievous things along the way. After the middle school years, I didn't have too much contact with him outside of MySpace until I saw him one day at a local community college we were both attending. What we surprisingly had in common? He had a computer with him very capable of playing Team Fortress 2.

I ended up showing him a few tricks (namely with Spy, heh) and we talked a bit more. Contacted each other on Facebook and talked a bit from there. He made it known he had cancer sometime after, and it was heartbreaking seeing the occasional picture of him decreasing in build. I didn't know how bad of shape he was truly in, possibly until a picture he posted last month.

He did however, post a photo he took of some goodies Valve had sent him back in May. Friends posted a couple of messages of their envy, but knowing his situation, it was really a bittersweet photo. Regardless, I'd like to share it:

I wish to thank Valve for giving my friend something personal to have while he had a chance to enjoy it, along with the shared memories you created because of your works. Team Fortress 2 is one of my favorite multiplayer games for several reasons, and one of them now is because of the small amount of time I got to share with my now passed friend.

Jesus. Normally I'm a heartless bastard and I tell people that while this stuff is sad, it doesn't belong on a forum.

But this truly is sad.

He's sapping a sentry in that big tf2 map in the sky now. A better place for sure.

My condolences.

Cheer up, Doom, you know what they say.

Always look on the Bright Side of Life!

He's chilling with Michael Jackson, Billy Mays!

Freddy Mercury, Ryan Dunn, all these famous and awesome celebrities.

God Bless his Soul.

Sorry for your lost, that's such a shame. He was born on the same day of the same year as me..

At our age it's easy to forget just how fragile your body really is with all the things people our age do to our bodies.. RIP his family and friends are in my prayers.
