Quick and easy way to recover corrupted game file.
Hey guys I'm not sure if this has been posted yet but I wanted to share this easy way to recover a corrupted save file.
OK lets say you have a back up save that was corrupted when the game updated and you're left with having to start a new game. Well go ahead and start a new game get to a check point and exit the game. Now copy over the corrupted save file to your /appdata/{steamid}/{appid}/remote/out/ Open up dead Island and you'll see there it says corrupted file in the save menu, good. Now exit the game again and also exit steam. Make sure steam says "syncing files" when it exits. Now simply start steam and dead island and you'll see your corrupted save is now fixed! Let me know if this has been posted already I'll delete my thread :P Last edited by BagofSnakes: 09-18-2011 at 10:05 AM. |

When I went to start a new game, I could see that my previous saves showed as "corrupted", and none of my previous saves would work. I'd copy them over from days ago, even, and it still showed as corrupt. This fix worked! |

Will this work for saves for people with broken saves because of massive inventory/Jin's bank hoards?
I'd check myself, but I've deleted the save. But I'm interested in case it ever happens again. |

So... You need to backup your save file BEFORE it was corrupted?
I'm sorry if I did not understand properly but this is how I understood it. 1. Save suddenly gets corrupted. 2. Backup corrupted file. 3. Start a New Game > Checkpoint > Quit 4. Paste backup file (corrupted) 5. Open Dead Island 6. Quit 7. Exit Steam and check if Steam is "synching files" 8. Reopen Dead Island and find out Steam has fixed your save Or did I just get dumb and did not understand your post? Sorry

try this it only works for saves like if when you open up the game it shows as save game corrupted it will fix it, but this still won't fix the save game crash cause by the item size limit/file size limit bug.

The problem with those saves are that the save file is permanently missing data. Your progress data at the end of the file has been truncated and the file itself does not terminate properly. But deleting your save was a mistake, because someone did find a method of fixing that problem. There is a way to use that old save to retain your inventory/character information and "repair" it using a new save's chapter information. You lose sidequest progress, but that's it. |
