L4D2 has ceased working at all.
I have had this game for a very long time, and for some reason, about a month ago the game stopped working; I needed an update and any time I would try, it would just stay at "Download starting..." but give me the typical "Steam servers are too busy" message that I've found to frequently actually be true.
However, this time, it did not matter how many days I waited to get this update. I tried verifying the game cache, but no go there, it said it was all good to go, the 20 or some times I tried, on a plethora of different days. I even tried deleting local game content, completely uninstalling the game; which I did. Now anytime I try and re-install I get the same "Steam servers are too busy" message. And now, even though my life is quite busy, I am bloody sick of it and I just want to play L4D2 again for an hour or two, you know? Any help here would be appreciated, if anyone understands what's going on here. My computer is a Mac, FYI. Umm ... other than that, I mean, do I need to give any more info? The game worked flawlessly for the longest time. |

Try this and let us know if it worked.
Try this, under steam settings opt in for the steam beta, this was the only thing that worked for me. The game updated and now I am back in business. Please let us know if this works for you.

I FINALLY convinced Steam that L4D2 was, in fact, uninstalled, after deleting AppUpdateStats, ClientRegistry, and absolutely anything that had the name "left4dead2" in it, even if it wasn't part of the game's folder, which I deleted a long time ago.
So. Now it is redownloading. We will see if the game finally works again once it gets done. Thanks for all the help everyone, especially the ClientRegistry.blob suggestion. Despite it seemingly being the key to all Steam-related issues, I had forgot the name of it, so! |
